Position Summary:
Liberty is seeking an Associate Underwriter or Underwriter to join our Underwriting team. This position is primarily focused on underwriting responsibilities on an assigned portfolio of Environmental Impairment Liability (EIL) insurance business across Canada, with particular emphasis on Contractors Pollution Liability, Fixed Site Liability & Storage Tank Liability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Production and underwriting of an assigned book of new and renewal business, including negotiation of policy terms and conditions.
- Research, collection, and analysis of account information, including in-depth technical analysis on EIL accounts, to determine suitability of risk.
- Build and maintain broker relationships to facilitate the marketing of Liberty products, including direct involvement in key broker initiatives and sales calls.
- Work with other Liberty lines of business to leverage multi-line business opportunities.
- Work closely with EIL colleagues and Management/Product Leaders to ensure consistency with underwriting protocols & product strategies.
- Attend relevant industry/association sponsored events to increase Liberty’s EIL profile.
- Drive process innovation to streamline the quoting process and increase efficiencies for the team
- Other duties may be assigned as required.
Skills & Qualifications:
- University degree or equivalent post-secondary education with relevant insurance designations/ education is an asset.
- Related work experience in the insurance industry is considered an asset.
- General Liability or Errors & Omissions Insurance experience is considered an asset
- Self-starter with strong analytical skills, in addition to strong business and interpersonal communication skills required.
- Demonstrate effective prioritization of workload and provide superior customer service
- Comfort in a customer facing role with regular engagement with brokers/clients
- Strong analytical, business, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong performer in both independent and team environment settings.
- Working toward CIP designation is an asset
The target annual salary for this role is $60,000 - $85,000. Salary is commensurate with candidate experience.
