About the Department

The Interpreter for Health Services performs specialized clerical and administrative duties in the Health Department. Work involves providing Spanish interpretation for patients, providing Spanish interpretation between Spanish speaking patients and healthcare providers, and contacting Spanish speaking patients via telephone or mail as requested by staff or in response to voicemail messages. Employee participates in determining clinic schedules of Spanish speaking patients with the appointments clerk and helps determine when additional interpreters are needed. Work also involves translating written forms and documents into Spanish and making pre-scheduled home visits with a nurse or other staff. The Interpreter reports to the Nursing Director.

Minimum Qualifications

High diploma (or equivalent) and at least one (1) year of experience in clerical-administrative work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience and education cannot substitute for one another. Must be fluent in the Spanish language.

Other Qualifications

Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time.
