About the Department

The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is seeking a talented and motivated individual to serve as an Employment Specialist in the Employment and Day Services Program. Position Duties

Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, provides employment related services to clients for the County. This position, depending on assignment, conducts career assessments; provides job search assistance; provides counseling; assists with basic work skills; locates education, workshops, and training for job seekers; collaborates with other agencies; provides special services for clients with special issues; and evaluates and reports on programs.  This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provides job search assistance, counseling, education, and training to job seekers and employers using an array of in-depth resources in the workforce center.
  • Conducts career interest and aptitude assessments, workshops, and program evaluations.
  • Provides long term, intensive, community employment services to Loudoun County residents who are adults with serious mental illness, intellectual disability (IQ 70 or below), developmental disability, traumatic brain injury, and may carry a co-occurring diagnosis of substance abuse, physical disability, or hearing or visual impairment.
  • Coordinates employment services between client and employer.
  • Evaluates service needs; coordinates and collaborates with other professionals to develop plans for individuals and families; and conducts crisis intervention and makes client referrals.
  • Conducts client assessments; completes assessment and service plan; determines eligibility for services; and completes case documentation.
  • Completes special projects as assigned, independently or as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrates compliance with County and Departmental and service/program policies, procedures, and regulations, and federal/state licensing regulations; completes required training and attestations of assigned Departmental policies, procedures, and processes by required dates.
  • Assesses individuals, develops treatment and/or employment plans, and initiates services to meet client needs.
  • Operates vehicles in a safe and reliable manner, transports clients.
  • Submits accurate and complete case or activity logs, service documentation, schedules, or incident reports in required time frames.
  • Ensures that information in system is complete and accurate in EHR system; ensures all documents are appropriately added to files and systems; and ensures all assessments, evaluations, eligibility, and plans are filed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or related field to assigned department; one (1) year of related work experience in social work, counseling, employment, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Ability to administer and interpret a variety of assessment tools including educational, vocational, employment, personality, and interest tests.
  • Ability to prepare reports and maintain case records.

Other Qualifications

  • Work schedule is 37.5 hours per week.
  • Must be fitted for N-95 (or similar) mask to safely provide on-site services as needed.
  • Employment is contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment background checks which include fingerprinting, credit check, NCIC, DMV and TB test. 
  • Must be able to drive County vehicles, including minivans and 15-passenger vans.
  • Must have a good driving record and a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
