About the Department
The primary responsibility of a faculty member at Edgecombe Community College (ECC) is to deliver quality learning opportunities that assist radiography students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations. Faculty are responsible for the quality of the educational program.
Excellence in teaching is emphasized through active engagement in the classroom, laboratory, clinical settings, individual conferences, and related academic activities. By fostering innovation, creativity, and meaningful interaction, faculty members empower students to develop their skills and reach their full potential—preparing them to become competent, sustainable, entry-level radiographers.
Position Duties
Essential Job Functions
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily and at a minimum;
- Communicate effectively on a regular basis with program chair/director, clinical coordinator, program faculty, clinical preceptors, clinical education staff and supervisors
- Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
- Submit time, contract hours, and other required documents/documentation by established deadlines
- Utilize the RAD Calendar timely and efficiently
- Prepare and maintain course outlines and objectives for course(s)
- Counsel students regarding their grades and progress in the course
- Schedule regular office hours for consultation and academic advising with students
- Grade and return student work in a timely manner (within 48 hours) – post in Moodle
- Instruct and evaluate students, and report progress in an organized and timely manner
- Effectively utilize Starfish reporting system
- Participate in the accreditation and assessment process
- Participate in periodic review and revision of course materials
- Provide didactic and/or clinical instruction as assigned by the department Chair/Director and Clinical Coordinator
- Prepare in advance and thoroughly for each instructional hour
- Select learning experiences that facilitate the student attainment of course student learning outcomes
- Maintain accurate records of student coursework and course attendance
- Record daily attendance in Self-Service
- Schedule regular office hours for consultation and academic advising with students
- Utilize a variety of instructional evaluation methods considering learning styles and teaching/learning theory
- Maintain current certification(s)/license(s)/credential(s) to practice in the required profession(s)
- Maintain current knowledge of the professional discipline, as appropriate
- Maintain appropriate expertise and competence through continued professional development
- Participate in appropriate professional development activities
- Collaborate with other faculty and program chair in development, implementation, and evaluation of the program curriculum
- Responsible for the course content, sections, and content of the syllabi for all courses assigned

- Arrange for the acquisition and/or preparation of materials and equipment necessary to meet the course objectives
- Maintain order of classrooms and labs
- Ensure proper storage of materials and equipment at the end of each lab session
- Prepare, distribute, and review with the student the first week of class a course syllabus that outlines clear and reasonable learning outcomes and expectations
- Implement active learning techniques and use a variety of learner- centered instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course. Such activities can include, but are not limited to:
Cooperative learning
Experiential learning
Writing for learning
Critical thinking initiatives
- Faculty development support will be available to enhance skills in these areas
- Focus on student learning outcomes, to ensure the needs and abilities of the students, and the mission of the college are met
- Be familiar with academic and social supports that benefit diverse groups
- Be supportive of students’ educational goals and make reasonable provisions to accommodate their individual differences while maintaining the academic integrity of the college
- Perform other assignments, consistent with his/her professional abilities, as assigned by the program or department chair or administration in carrying out the mission of the institution. These duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work with students, peers, administrative, and support staff in a professional manner that models constructive problem-solving (flexibility, preparation for required tasks
- Ethical conduct (respect and courtesy, consistency, fairness)
- Organization (proper attire, attendance, decorum)
- Adherence to college policies and procedures
- Post and maintain office hours as stated in the faculty handbook
- Be available for student appointments for advising and assisting students in achieving their educational and vocational goals
- Be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data information to include enrollment reports, final grade reports, and book orders
- Serve as an academic advisor to students
- Assist in the registration and orientation process
- Participate in at least one college committee as elected or assigned
- Submit faculty leave reports, end of month time reports, monthly travel documentation, and other required documentation or forms by established deadlines
- Assist in recruiting activities when assigned
- Assist part-time instructors when requested
- Work with the community in meeting the educational needs of our service area
- Assist in new course development as needed
SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS:
- At times throughout the year, will be required to perform other duties as assigned (to include limited weekends, evenings, and overnight conference that are work/school related activities).
- In addition, assignments and work schedule modification to include longer days and/or weekends during the JRCERT Self-Study and preparation of the JRCERT Site Visits will be required.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Instructor must meet all SACSCOC faculty credentials for this position.
- Holds, at a minimum, an Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) in Radiography from an accredited institutional program by the JRCERT with the anticipation to complete and obtain bachelor’s degree within two years of employment.
- Holds current national certification and registration to practice as a Registered Technologist in Radiography by the ARRT; carrying the credentials R.T.(R)(ARRT).
- Documents three years’ clinical experience in the professional discipline using current DR technology.
- Is qualified to teach the subject matter.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population.
- Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check and drug screen are required
