About the Department

RATE OF PAY: $16.96 per hour, depending on experience
 
HOURS: Evenings, and weekends; number of hours per week will depend on scheduled events
 
MINIMUM AGE: Must be at least 18 years of age           
 
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK:
The employee is responsible for providing professional and courteous front-of-house operations at the Michael A. Guido Theater.  The employee also ensures the safety and comfort of all patrons.  

Position Duties

  • Unlocks doors and turns on lobby lights prior to performances and performs pre-show safety check using established checklist.
  • Checks public areas, restrooms, lobbies, theater, foyer and front of building and addresses appearance and/or safety problems.
  • Supervises and trains volunteer ushers on emergency situations, seating, holds and Special Assistance seating.
  • Explains emergency procedures and exit patterns to volunteer ushers prior to each performance.
  • Coordinates between patrons and box office to resolve seating problems.
  • Assists late-arriving guests and guests returning to their seats during the performance using a flashlight and observing hold policies.
  • Remains in lobby or theater throughout the performance and posts in prominent location during intermission and following performances to handle patron inquiries.
  • Coordinates resumption of the performance following intermission with the Stage Manager.
  • Upon completion of performance, ensures house is checked for litter and personal belongings and returns found items to the box office.  Turns off lights in public areas and locks front doors of building once patrons have cleared the building.
  • Explain patron services and policies.
  • Oversees preparation and distribution of programs.
  • Completes accident report forms for any and all incidents occurring while on duty.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance as scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT:
Follows emergency procedures established by the Theater Manager and handles all emergency situations affecting patrons and the building while on duty.  Such situations may include emergency evacuations (fire, bomb threat, power outage or other emergency in which patron safety is at risk), floods, and physical plant problem which may or may not affect the audience or actors, fire alarms, security breaches including intruders or theft, patron illness or accident and inclement weather.  Employee is responsible for notifying emergency authorities and theater personnel as required.  Coordinates emergency actions with the Stage Manager and ushers.
 

Other Qualifications

  • Two years of professional experience as usher or house manager preferred.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
  • Experience dealing with a wide variety of people in a multitude of situations in a polite, yet direct, fashion.
  • Must submit to a criminal history check and drug screen.
