The shift available for the position is Monday to Friday 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Under the supervision of the Preventative Maintenance (PM) Shop Foreman, the selected candidate will perform journey level work in multiple trades.  The PM team performs the regular and routine maintenance of equipment for WCU’s educational and general buildings. Work consists of both scheduled and unscheduled basic maintenance repairs of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry services needs throughout campus, to maximize the lifecycle & reliability of equipment, reduce downtime of unexpected equipment failures, reduce safety risks and reduce the cost of repairs.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform minor bathroom and kitchen repairs, cabinets, fixtures, and partitions
  • Repair and replace suspended ceilings and ceiling tiles
  • Repair various types of flooring i.e., carpet, tile, wood
  • Clean, lubricate, inspect, repair / replace certain equipment parts as necessary
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance via verbal and written instructions
  • Understanding building automation systems and field components
  • Test systems before returning/placing them in operation
  • Replace & re-lamp existing lighting
  • Repair or replace basic plumbing fixtures such as sinks, faucets, flushometers, toilets, and showers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

This position is deemed "essential" and must remain or report to work during partial or full day closings of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons. The ability to work overtime when needed is also required.

Position Duties

  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades 
OR
  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1; 

               OR 

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Valid Driver's License

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and practices used in at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved
  • Ability to care for and use the tools and equipment utilized in the trades involved
  • Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments
  • Ability to lead a small group of semi-skilled workers
  • Ability to interpret and work from pencil sketches and diagrams
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to operate and/or utilize basic lawn care and snow removal equipment
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with mechanical equipment repairs
