Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Compliance Specialist to support enterprise-wide compliance initiatives that ensure ethical, high-quality care across all programs. In this dynamic role, you’ll conduct internal audits, monitor adherence to policies and regulations—including HIPAA, Medicaid, and behavioral health standards—and collaborate with teams to identify and mitigate risk. Reporting to the Corporate Integrity/Compliance Manager, you’ll also lead staff training and support quality improvement efforts that drive organizational excellence. Schedule. Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Hybrid schedule, one day onsite per week minimum, additional onsite days as needed. AMHR provides 24/7 services; the occasional need for hours/days outside of M-F, 8-5 may arise.
Salary for this role.
Salary is based on 1.0 FTE (full-time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE. Salary is also based on experience and company equity.
- $74,068.80 – $110,748.33 per year.
Essential Functions:
Audit and Compliance Monitoring
- Conduct scheduled and ad hoc internal audits to assess compliance with federal, state, local, and contractual requirements.
- Evaluate clinical documentation related to billing practices and service delivery for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to AMHR policies.
- Analyze audit findings to identify patterns, trends, or emerging risks, and recommend actionable improvements.
- Monitor and track follow-up actions to verify resolution and prevent recurrence of compliance issues.
- Support the drafting, revision, and communication of policies and procedures to reflect regulatory changes or identified gaps.
- Assist in developing audit tools, checklists, or dashboards that improve data visibility and feedback loops.
- Coordinate with program staff to gather information and documentation required during external audits or regulatory reviews.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of behavioral health compliance requirements and proactively share relevant updates with stakeholders.
- Participate in risk assessments and contribute to risk mitigation strategies.
Training, Education, and Communication
- Deliver or assist in delivering compliance training for new hires, annual refreshers, and targeted coaching for teams with identified risk areas.
- Develop clear, accessible compliance resources (e.g., tip sheets, FAQs) for staff at all levels.
- Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for compliance-related questions or concerns, providing accurate and timely guidance.
- Contribute to a culture of transparency and ethical behavior by reinforcing AMHR’s compliance standards through regular communication.
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare concise, accurate audit reports and summaries for the Corporate Integrity/Compliance Manager and leadership.
- Maintain organized, confidential records of audits, findings, corrective actions, and training efforts.
- Support compliance data analysis to inform quality improvement initiatives and strategic planning.
Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
- Partner with quality improvement and program teams to align compliance efforts with broader performance goals.
- Identify systemic issues and recommend process or policy changes to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Participate in quality improvement committees, workgroups, or task forces as needed.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health, healthcare administration, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in community behavioral health compliance auditing.
- Preferred: Familiarity with regulations and standards established by the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) and Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF).
- Strong knowledge of compliance and auditing principles, especially in community behavioral health settings.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with excellent written, oral, listening, and public speaking skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams while promoting a culture of compliance and ethics.
- Skill in expressing compliance expectations clearly and professionally to organizational staff.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work effectively across diverse groups, balancing customer service with process improvement.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and documenting compliance efforts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data entry or reporting software.
Required Vaccination.
