Description
The primary role of this part-time, hourly position is to assist the Austin PBS Play to Learn facilitator, part of the Texas Health and Human Services-funded Project HOPES. Healthy Outcomes through Prevention and Early Support (HOPES) is a flexible community grant that funds a wide variety of innovative initiatives and supports for families with children birth to 5 years old. The Play to Learn curriculum was co-developed by Austin PBS and the United Way for Greater Austin; it consists of 10 sessions with adult-child pairs engaging in research-based practices intended to become fun, routine “anywhere, anytime” activities in their daily lives. In addition to standard school readiness practices of fine and gross-motor activities, shared reading, singing, dance and movement, and rich dialogue, each session incorporates developmentally appropriate uses of digital educational media, primarily from PBS, and fosters “smart screen time” as an ongoing practice.
A secondary function of the position is to collaborate with the Play to Learn facilitator. This includes recruitment assistance, material preparation, session set up and take down, and assisting with the workshop duties during each of the 10 Play to Learn sessions.
