Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Control Chemist to join our Operations team. This role is responsible for the analytical and physical testing of cosmetic raw materials, components, bulk formulations, and finished hair care products. The QC Chemist ensures all materials and products meet internal quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Perform qualitative and quantitative testing of raw materials, packaging components, bulk formulations, and finished goods.
· Analyze samples, perform calculations, and identify out-of-specification (OOS) results.
· Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and FDA regulations.
· Conduct in-process inspections and final product evaluations throughout all stages of production.
· Perform in-process bulk adjustments, including pH, viscosity, and color matching, to ensure product consistency and compliance.
· Conduct stability and compatibility testing and accurately record and interpret the resulting data.
· Review and interpret analytical data, documenting deviations and initiating corrective actions as needed.
· Maintain accurate and complete laboratory records and QC documentation.
· Conduct packaging quality inspections and internal audits; quarantine non-conforming materials or products.
· Coordinate microbiological testing and preservative efficacy testing (PET).
· Escalate quality or non-compliance concerns promptly and effectively.
· Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in QC processes and implement new methodologies.
· Perform daily calibration and verification of laboratory equipment.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion of inspections and testing.
· Lead and document OOS investigations, including root cause analysis and CAPA implementation.
· Ensure all activities are performed in a safe and compliant manner.
· Maintain effective communication with suppliers, customers, and third-party manufacturers regarding quality-related matters.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
· Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in cosmetic or personal care product manufacturing.
· Proficiency in color matching and visual evaluation of cosmetic products.
· Strong understanding of cosmetic raw materials, ingredient interactions, and formulation principles.
· Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation and laboratory techniques relevant to cosmetic testing.
· Familiarity with GLP, GMP, ISO 22716 and regulatory standards applicable to cosmetic manufacturing.
· Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams and with external partners.
· Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
· Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
· Capable of managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with lab software is a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Laboratory setting with exposure to chemicals/cosmetic ingredients.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
- Constant interaction with manufacturing/filling department and external partners.
