Job Overview

As an Engineering Shift Manager at Carlsberg Britvic, you will be responsible for delivering world-class engineering technical excellence in fault resolution and maintenance standards. You will oversee the maintenance of manufacturing equipment, building infrastructure, and utilities provision using coordinated corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance techniques. Your primary goal is to minimize equipment failure downtime and catastrophic failure impact on site manufacturing capability while adhering to all Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in delivering the Engineering department's vision and strategic plan, developing and deploying a strategy for energy, equipment, and maintenance that supports the site's progression and development in line with the Britvic Work System (BWS).
  • Carry out duties responsibly, considering Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality procedures, which are part of the Integrated Management System.
  • Adhere to Legal and Statutory Requirements, including PUWER, Electricity at Work, DSEAR, PSSR, COSHH, LOLER, CDM, Asbestos, Ionising Radiation, Confined Spaces, and Work at Height.
  • Promote a safe working environment by ensuring full compliance with Britvic SHE and LOTO (Lock Out, Tag Out) processes and policies, including Permit to Work.
  • Assist in organizing and carrying out shutdown work, including working with external suppliers and service providers.
  • Line manage the engineering shift team.
  • Take ownership of overall reliability performance for the site, including accountability for any line/area performance KPIs.
  • Drive performance improvements using problem-solving, process optimization, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Develop world-class engineering solutions with the team, driving a culture of strong performance and striving to achieve full personal potential and business objectives.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

  • Practical Engineering / Technical / Facilities Maintenance experience with a proven track record of maintenance service delivery.
  • Extensive experience working within a strategic, target-driven manufacturing environment measured by robust Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Extensive experience providing technical expertise for completing Intrusive Planned & Preventative Maintenance Schedules (PPM's) HACCP studies and audits.
  • Working knowledge and application experience of delivering specific Health, Safety & Environmental legislation, including Food Safety.
  • Extensive experience with Safety Systems utilizing Isolation and Lock-Out, Tag-Out procedures, Risk Assessment, and Permit to Work.
  • Production line experience, preferably within a FMCG environment.
  • Experience in the use of complex Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Experience in process control, including instrumentation control loops (including PID control).
  • Experience in interrogation and fault finding on PLCs (Siemens S7) and process control loops (SCADA PID control).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication & negotiation skills.
  • IT literate, including MS Word & MS Excel.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with a track record of focused improvement.

Qualifications

  • Candidates will be qualified to a minimum NVQ Level 3 and preferably possess an HNC (both in a relevant Engineering discipline), or equivalent. Ideally, they will be multi-disciplined (mechanical, electrical, controls, automation, software), with a time-served apprenticeship background in a manufacturing engineering environment.
  • Time-served apprenticeship in a manufacturing environment.
  • IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) desirable.
  • Experience in Lean methodologies (TPM, PDCA, 5-Why, etc.).
  • Knowledge and demonstration of the relevant Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental aspects (including Food Safety).
