Come join the staff at OU Health Center and become a part of Oklahoma's premier research university which leads the state in education and career opportunities.  OU Health Center is one of only four comprehensive academic health centers in the nation with seven professional collages.  We are currently building world-class institutes for the treatment of diabetes and cancer and are currently seeking a Senior Fire Systems Technician to join our team.

The Senior Fire Systems Technician provides a safe environment for faculty, staff, students, and guests on the University Campus by maintaining fire protection systems throughout the campus.  Maintains, diagnoses, and conducts minor repairs to electronic fire detection, alarm, and control systems in all campus buildings.   Assists in coordinating with outside fire alarm and sprinkler contractors to install fire alarm and sprinkler systems.  Conducts mandated inspections and repairs.  Conducts tests, inspects and acts as lead technician over technicians and will be required to give training, direction, job duties, and monitor the work performed by other technicians in shop.  

  • Prepares systems for a walk-test during remodel projects and final testing.  Prepares fire alarm systems during fire pumps weekly and monthly fire pump churn test.  Programs systems to control auxiliary functions.  Oversees and assist on all inspections performed by outside contractors.  Verifies program integrity and readiness.  Make necessary changes to systems to comply with standards set by fire systems shop.
  • Evaluates, diagnoses, and troubleshoots system equipment that requires servicing.  Identifies and reports all system discrepancies found during inspections, identifies code and non-conformance issues as well as system upgrade opportunities with supervisor.  Acts as field contact for all fire alarm and sprinkler contractors and helps organize work, with by communicating with supervisor.  Recommends to management any field pricing of repairs.
  • Performs minor fire alarm discrepancy repairs, replacement, standard maintenance and programming for items identified during testing and inspections.  Responds to emergency service in order to troubleshoot and repair systems.   Documents and files all service activities and enters time worked daily through appropriate reporting tools.  Communicates systems performance to management.  Participates in On-Call rotation to provide 24/7 coverage for emergency service calls for fire system and fire sprinkler systems.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, submittals, and product manuals to properly program and verify the installation of new systems.  Always be on guard for potential fire safety risks and take notice of any hazards that may affect fire systems performance.
  • Keeps up-to-date technically by attending workshops and classes and reading current technical manuals.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and schedules activities of technical staff.  Assists with hiring, training, and evaluating performance.  Discusses with management disciplinary actions or possible terminations.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.

Required Education: High School Diploma, GED, or Trade School Certificate, AND:

  • 60 months in the installation and maintenance of commercial fire alarm systems both conventional and addressable.

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of diagnostic tools, such as ohmmeters, VOMs, and manufacturers; software, to confirm power-up and operation of system components.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, diagrams, submittals, and product manuals. 
  • Ability to identify problems and discuss solutions with management.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organization skills.
  • Proficient in PC applications and Microsoft Office Suite to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted.

Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Drivers License to drive University vehicle or ability to obtain an Oklahoma Drivers License within 30 days of hire date.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: 
    • Must be able to work in sitting position. Ability to engage in repetitive motion. Frequently walks, stands, and stoops.   Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Environmental: 
    • Standard Office Work Environment.
