SMX is seeking a Journeyman Mission Systems Engineer to provide technical and engineering support to the H-53 Heavy Lift Helicopter Program Office (PMA-261) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD. The candidate will provide engineering support of mission and sensor systems and the evaluation of their technical performance, mission suitability and associated acquisition risks throughout the full acquisition process and lifecycle of a program.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the design, development, and integration of mission systems for naval aviation platforms.
- Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to address mission system issues and ensure alignment with program objectives.
- Perform systems engineering tasks, including requirements analysis, system design, and interface definition.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including specifications, test plans, and technical reports.
- Conduct system-level testing and validation to ensure compliance with performance requirements.
- Collaborate with program managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define system capabilities and resolve technical challenges.
- Ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) standards, acquisition processes, and cybersecurity requirements.
- Provide technical expertise during program reviews, systems engineering reviews, and airworthiness certification processes.
Required Skills/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or scientific field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant systems engineering experience, preferably supporting DoD or Navy programs.
- Required Clearance: DoD Secret
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements analysis, system design, and testing.
- Familiarity with mission systems integration and sustainment for naval aviation platforms.
