The Business Development (BD) department is responsible for coordinating and executing those activities associated with strategic planning development and enterprise-wide business development programs which include identifying, coordinating, executing, and managing activities associated with enterprise-wide strategic initiatives. This position is also responsible for assisting in facilitation of project mission definitions, goals, tasks, and resource requirements. The BD Program Manager will work on teams and alone in developing, establishing, and maintaining departmental operations and procedures. This person manages assigned projects to ensure the desired result is achieved, the most efficient resources are used, and the different interests involved are satisfied.

Organization Role

This is a management level position reporting to the Director of Global Business Development and Strategy. The BD Program Manager communicates and interacts with various ASTM departments, including TCO, Global Policy, Corporate Communications, and Marketing, and members, partners, and stakeholders on a regular basis. The position functions as an individual contributor in a team environment and may often provide work direction to fellow ASTM colleagues and external members for various activities involved with the planning, development, and execution of the BD department responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a collaborative mode with colleagues in creating, coordinating, and executing activities associated with an organization-wide business development program.
  • Lead cross-departmental teams focused on program development for various sectors within Business Development
  • Manage business operations for fully developed sector areas within Business Development scope
  • Contribute to the development of strategic business plans that ensure justification for new innovative products, programs, or services
  • Identify and establish strategic relationships that provide ASTM with opportunities for new program development, services, or products
  • Work across departments in support of achieving strategic objectives of the division related to new business development opportunities including new standardization-related activities, certification and training opportunities
  • Collaborate with team in assessing emerging technologies, business partnerships, and other related business ventures aligned with Business Development goals
  • Provide support to ASTM’s Centers of Excellence (CoE), Xcellerate Program, and other innovative programs in industry sectors such as Advanced Manufacturing, Aviation, Exo Technologies, Advanced Robotics, and othersAssist in budget preparation and expense management activities progress
  • Participate on organization-wide task groups as assigned
  • Propose, develop and execute co-branding activities, sponsorships and events
  • Assists BD Director in the management and completion of departmental objectives, reviewing internal operations, and continually looking for improvements
  • § Provide support to Business Development team in other associated projects as needed

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Project management, business development, economics, international business, and/or engineering focus are a plus.
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with ASTM colleagues, management, partners, members and customers.
  • Ability to travel 15-20% of the time

  • Master’s degree, or master’s degree pursuant
  • Exemplary communications and interpersonal skills and professional demeanor
