About the Department

The Assessment, Policy Development, & Evaluation (APDE) of the Health Sciences Division of Public Health | Seattle & King County (PHSKC) is seeking an Intern III (Graduate Intern) (Best Starts for Kids Data Team Intern III) to join our team and support with evaluations of several programs. These programs include:

The Best Starts for Kids (BSK) Technical Assistance and Capacity Building (TA/CB) Program. This program provides Technical Assistance to applicants seeking BSK funding in an effort to reduce the linguistic, cultural, and procedural obstacles that might prevent qualified organizations from participating in or being awarded funding opportunities from King County. Capacity Building helps BSK-awarded organizations to provide and co-create information, tools, and resources to strengthen their infrastructure, address service gaps, and build capacity. This position will support a deep dive evaluation of this program, primarily focused on data collection on funding outcomes for TA recipients, and qualitative analysis of interview data with TA recipients.

Communities of Opportunity invests in community power for structural change. COO partner activities range from awareness-raising and building collaborations within and across communities to developing and implementing processes and policies that support improved health, housing, economic opportunities and community connection. This position will support some of COO’s qualitative data activities, including cleaning and analysis of stakeholder midpoint interviews.

This internship is anticipated to last up to 12 months and with an expected start date in October 2025.

Commitment To Equity and Social Justice

Named after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the most influential civil rights leaders in our nation's history, King County is a vibrant international community with residents that represent countries from around the world. It is a region with increasing diversity that cherishes the traditions of many cultures.

The county government has a deep commitment to equity and social justice and advancing practices, strategies, and policies that promote fairness, justice, and opportunity for all – in our workplaces and our communities. With this commitment, King County has adopted a pro-equity agenda to advance regional change and ensure that residents from all communities are incorporated into our emergency planning and public outreach efforts.

We recognize that structural racism consists of principles and practices that cause and justify an inequitable distribution of rights, opportunities, and experiences across racial groups. Since declaring Racism is a Public Health Crisis in June 2020, King County and Public Health committed to being intentionally anti-racist and accountable to Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities.
