SHIFT:  1st Shift

POSITION SUMMARY:  Oversees and controls the accomplishment of avionics system modifications and maintenance functions to provide airworthiness upon completion of assigned tasks to customer specifications and FAA standards, in accordance with the Repair Station Manual.  Plans and schedules departmental workloads and supervises operations to maximize the effective utilization of employees, equipment and material/supplies within budgetary, cost, and procedural standards.

 

FUNCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides supervision and direction to Avionics Leads in carrying out avionics systems maintenance functions as required maximizing efficiency and minimizing work hours and errors. Monitors work performance on a regular basis.
  2. Supervises the proper removal, installation, inspection, testing, adjustment, repairs and modifications of aircraft avionics systems, including radio systems, radar, and navigation systems.
  3. Ensures that avionics modifications, maintenance and repair work is properly performed and is legibly documented.
  4. Monitors and controls labor expenses with regard to overtime requirements and limitations, according to instructions, plans, budgets, and schedules.
  5. Oversees the correct use of tools and equipment, including but not limited to hand tools, soldering irons, circuit testers, oscilloscopes, voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters, required to accomplish assigned tasks efficiently, properly, and safely.
  6. Provides liaison with other departments to ensure proper coordination of support efforts and availability of required information.
  7. Ensures that work progress is documented on non-routine or routine paperwork.
  8. Ensures proper maintenance and control of aircraft visibility work boards and/or work booths indicating work remaining and work in progress, as appropriate.
  9. Provides estimates for all maintenance on non-preplanned documents and maintenance requirements.
  10. Audits aircraft documentation upon completion of a project to assure that all paperwork is accounted for and accurate.
  11. Ensures dock and work areas are organized to maximize capabilities.
  12. Obtains customer approval on original and revised estimates to accomplish avionics maintenance on the customer’s aircraft and components.
  13. Documents, reports, and investigates all accidents.
  14. Obtains ongoing/periodic progress reports from other departments to review with regard to work in progress.
  15. Documents turnovers in the turnover book, and generates and/or ensures that necessary periodic reports are prepared as directed.
  16. Instructs employees in company and departmental policies and procedures.
  17. Initiates and recommends approval of personnel actions including PTO, pay changes, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and leaves of absence
  18. Interviews, selects and/or recommends hire of employees; and provides appropriate training for departmental personnel.
  19. Documents, reports, and investigates all accidents in accordance with SMS policy and procedures.
  20. Will perform verbal coaching to adjust/improve employee performance and document in accordance with company expectations.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

SUPERVISES: Assigned direct reports

HUMAN INTERACTION/COMMUNICATION: In performing the job, an individual in this position experiences significant interface with company officers, other members of senior management, managers, and supervisors, other employees of all levels, external vendors/suppliers, customers, and government agency representatives.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

WORK RELATED SKILLS: 

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills
  • Proficient in Boeing airframe systems and components
  • Proficient in reading wiring diagrams and schematics

EXPERIENCE:  Minimum 5 (five) years related experience, including three years in a lead capacity, providing knowledge of tier one customer’s aircraft maintenance program. Integrated technical and operations management experience required.

EDUCATION: Associates Degree in Aircraft Electronics Technology or related field; or equivalent background providing knowledge of appropriate business, industry, and technical principles, procedures and management techniques. Position requires FAA A&P license in good standing.

OTHER: Must be able to read, write, and speak effectively in English regarding safety sensitive work activities, per FAA requirements.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Proficiency in MS Office applications to include: Outlook, Excel, Word, and Project.

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS: Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling. Work is performed in an office, warehouse, and hangar environment.

MEASUREMENT OF PERFORMANCE: Performance is measured by the degree of success in performing the essential functions of the job and the goals set from established or previous performance review. Annual performance evaluations are given upon periodic review and input from the Supervisor.
