Key Responsibilities
- Sources and manages freight companies for inbound/outbound freight, including LTL and truckload shipments utilizing optimal routing to assure the required level of customer service is received at the lowest rates.
- Negotiates carrier rates for various transportation modes.
- Focuses on cost effectiveness and priority customers.
- Responsible for executing against annual transportation budget.
- Coordinates shipping and receiving activities within the plants.
- Monitors and evaluates carrier performance for on-time deliveries and service.
- Responsible for tracking carrier's process compliance from tender to reporting delivery.
- Follow-ups on carrier activities not accomplished at the appointed time to obtain updates/current status, monitoring and follow up on adherence to pick up appointments.
- Communicates potential delays to appropriate Customer Logistics Analyst and revised delivery appointments.
- Calculates and enters freight contracts.
- Analyzes and approves rate change requests.
- Develops and evaluates freight discrepancy sheets.
- Uses weekly/monthly KPI reporting identifies service improvement/ cost reduction opportunities.
- Maintains inbound and outbound routing guides.
- Performs audit of the delivered price list to ensure accuracy.
- Problem-solves transportation issues and communicates as necessary with the sales team, customer service reps, and others as appropriate.
- Assists sales with logistics of special projects, including delivered pricing and outside warehousing. Identify, collaborate and implement continuous improvement projects to elevate customer service levels.
- Assists shipping department on proper load methods, calling for carrier assistance, if needed.
- Collaborates cross-functionally to analyze issues, develop corrective actions or continuous improvement processes, align stakeholders to implement the change, and communicate the outcome
- Participates in the development of transportation processes to maximize operational efficiencies.
- Recommends, develops, and implements value-added process improvements.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferred
- Minimum two (2) years experience in Transportation or Logistics required
- Knowledge of the transportation industry, including Department of Transportation Rules and Regulations
- Intermediate MS Office experience (Excel, Word)
- Experience with 10-key
- High-level attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
- Good problem solving and decision-making skills
- Strong team player
- Ability to analyze and solve practical problems
- Ability to successfully balance multiple projects and priorities
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, cwt's, and percentages
