About the Department
Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to supervise on-street parking programs, operations and activities.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
• Assists in budget preparation and monitors and controls expenditures.
• Enforces safety procedures to ensure safe operation of equipment and employee safety.
• Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning the operation and use of equipment and materials.
• Inspects work completed by contractors and vendors for compliance to contract specifications.
• Reviews bid specifications and cost estimates, prepares change orders, and submits requests for contractor payments.
• Supervises programs, operations and coordination of activities with departments, vendors and contractors.
• Responds to user complaints and inquiries and initiates corrective actions.
• Collects data and prepares reports regarding on-street parking operations.
• Supervises the planning and organization of on-street parking program initiatives, special events and activities.
• Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business or Public Administration or related discipline.
• Three (3) years of parking garage or parking meter experience, including one year of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Must work a varied schedule.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT)
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
