Essential Functions: 

  • Reads and interprets physicians’ orders for the purpose of dispensing medications and pharmaceutical supplies. 

  • Ultimately responsible for the security of the pharmacy location, including the physical security and exclusion of non-authorized personnel in the department as per FBOP regulations. 

  • Responsible for compliance with 340B Medication program (as regulated by HRSA) guidelines, including purchasing, inventory management and accuracy, and successful completion of selected program audits.  

  • Responsible for financial accuracy of cash register’s contents and providing our revenue cycle team with detail daily information and coordinating deposits with CHC supervisors.  

  • Fills prescriptions with proper medications upon confirmation of dosage requirements. 

  • Instructs patients in proper methods/procedures, and ensures clarification of instructions prior to dispensing medications. 

  • Ultimately responsible for compliance with all State/Federal regulatory compliance guidelines governing the practice of pharmacy within the specific pharmacy setting. 

  • Contacts physicians and nurses for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and correctness of prescriptions. 

  • Orders and receives equipment, supplies, and medications for pharmacy stocking/dispensing needs. 

  • Maintains and responsible for accurate prescription records and inventory control system in accordance with District policies and regulatory requirements. 

  • Ultimately responsible for the legal requirements within the prescription department. 

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulatory agency requests and paperwork. 

  • Responsible for ensuring job performance and training standard are met by all pharmacy staff; performs verbal and/or written counseling when necessary. 

  • Maintains a valid pharmacist license by obtaining required continuing education per year. 

  • Performs dispensing to District clinics, including bulk dispensing. 

  • Travels to other pharmacy locations and emergency established sites to perform registered pharmacist’s duties. 

  • Supervises and oversees the work of Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy clerks, and pharmacy externs/interns under charge; assesses pharmacy technicians. 

  • Assists the Director of Pharmacy with other assigned clinical initiatives/projects relevant to pharmacy/medical field. 

  • Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, manmade or natural. 

    Additional Duties: 

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. 

Performs a variety of administrative support functions, and related duties, as required per the District, and Board of Pharmacy guidelines at assigned pharmacy location.

Qualifications

Education:   

Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy required. 

Experience:   

One (1) year minimum professional experience in the field of pharmacy in a clinical, retail, or hospital setting required. Three (3) years preferred. 

 

Certification:

State of Florida Pharmacist License required.
