Description

The Physical Therapist Technician and Activities Coordinator will play a crucial role in assisting physical therapists in providing high-quality rehabilitative services to residents, with a focus on restoring mobility, improving strength and function, and enhancing overall quality of life. As an Activities Coordinator you will be assisting with the planning, implementation, and coordination of recreational and therapeutic activities that enhance residents’ quality of life and promote socialization, cognitive stimulation, and emotional well-being. 


Schedule: Full-Time, Weekdays, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm 


Primary Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Assist physical therapists in conducting assessments to evaluate residents’ physical abilities, functional status, and rehabilitation needs through comprehensive assessments.  
  • Assist in the setup and maintenance of therapy equipment and treatment areas to ensure safety and efficiency. 
  • Provide hands-on assistance and guidance to residents during therapy sessions, ensuring safety, proper technique, and optimal outcomes. 
  • Utilize adaptive equipment, assistive devices, and environment modifications to facilitate residents’ participation in therapy activities and enhance their independence in daily tasks. 
  • Document resident progress, treatment interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.  
  • Collaborate with residents and their families to establish realistic goals, educate them on therapeutic techniques and strategies, and provide support and encouragement throughout the rehabilitation process. 
  • Engage residents in activities and provide hands-on assistance and support as needed to promote participation and enjoyment. 
  • Set up and clean up activity spaces, including arranging furniture, preparing materials, ensuring cleanliness and safety standards are maintained. 
  • Escort residents to and from activity sessions, outings, and events, providing assistance with mobility and ensuring their safety and comfort. 
  • Assist with documenting resident participation, preferences, and feedback on activity programs to track outcomes and evaluate effectiveness. 
  • Participate in training programs and educational opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in recreational programming, aging services, and dementia care.  
  • Adhere to facility policies and procedures, as well as regulatory standards and guidelines, related to resident activities and recreational programming. 
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines related to resident activities and 
  • Perform all other duties as requested by management. 

Requirements

Job Qualifications: 

  • CNA license required.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or rehabilitation setting preferred. 
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for engaging residents in meaningful and enjoyable activities that cater to diverse interests and abilities. 
  • Ability to follow directions, work independently, and demonstrate attention to detail. 
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and anatomy. 
  • Clinical experience in a skilled nursing facility or similar healthcare setting is preferred. 
  • Ability to build rapport with residents through a compassionate and caring demeanor.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others achieve their goals. 
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of residents and the facility. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with residents, families, and team members. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Work performed in a medical setting due to the need to work directly with residents, families, and other team members. 
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, reach, talk, hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, stretch, twist.
  • Required vision includes close, vision, distance, peripheral, and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Capability to assist residents with mobility tasks, including transferring them from beds to wheelchairs, assisting with standing or walking, and positioning them for therapy activities. 
    • May need to lift or maneuver equipment such as therapy mats, adaptive devices or weights. 
  • Maintain regular attendance and timeliness as set forth within the work schedule designated by the department supervisor/manager.
  • The job requires accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high-stress situations. 
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods during therapy sessions and walk or move around the facility to access residents’ rooms and therapy spaces. 
  • The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Stamina to work full shifts and perform repetitive tasks throughout the day, including providing therapy to multiple residents and documenting training sessions.
