This position is responsible for the transportation of patients, equipment, specimens, medical records andmiscellaneous items throughout the entire medical center campus.This position transports preoperative and postoperative patients to and from the operating room. In a close observation/constant attendance scenario, this position works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and assists with individual activities of daily living.
For casual positions: casual employees have no regularly scheduled work hours, but require anunderstanding of, and agreement to fulfill, the minimum time commitments of the position for as long as theposition is held. These are (if needed) at least 48 hours per month with 24 of those hours worked onweekends, and an annual requirement of 24 hours worked on holidays.
Responsibilities:(50%)*Transport patients throughout the medical center including occasional trips to Riecker Surgery
Center, Campus Ridge or The Center for Women�s Health. Transport pre- and post-op patients to and from operating room and PACU. Discharges patients.
(20%)*Transports supplies, equipment, specimens, medical records throughout the medical center
including Riecker Surgery Center.
(20%)*Under the direction of an RN provides close observation patient support service up to continuous observation of patients.
(10%)*Provides report to patient care team.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follows established safety procedures: patient identification, safe transfers, prepares and maintains oxygen when needed.
Follows universal precautions, assures transport devices are cleaned between each transport, maintains confidentiality and documents on medical record.
Supports the mission, goals, policies and standards of the patient transport and nursing departments.
Medical Center and unit policies and work rules are recognized, supported and implemented.
Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures.

Provides excellent customer service: Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy at all times.
Assures patient environment safety.
Seeks help from licensed personnel as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.

Certifications and Licensures:BLS - Basic Life Support
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 1 month of hire or transfer
Required Education:
High School Dipoma or GED
Comments: I.V. set up skills preferred. Three to four years experience in a clinical setting is preferred. College medical terminology course preferred.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level:Heavy. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 51-100 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 50 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% of the workday) 20 lbs.
