The Opportunity
The Department of Anthropology in the College of Sciences (COS) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-earning assistant professor in forensic anthropology, anticipated to begin August 2026.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biological anthropology with a focus in forensic anthropology. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in different modalities including face-to-face and online. The instructional duties and service assignments are in accordance with the department’s equitable workload policy.
The Department of Anthropology has an interdisciplinary approach in archaeological, cultural, biological, linguistic, and applied/public anthropology and supports innovative teaching at the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. levels. Anthropology faculty contribute to significant scholarly research, develop or enhance community partnerships, and engage with professional organizations. The department values collegiality and promotes interdisciplinary and collaborative endeavors. Minimum Qualifications:
A doctorate in anthropology or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution by time of hire is required.
Documented evidence of forensic anthropological teaching, research, or casework experience.
The successful candidate will have experience teaching in different modalities including face-to-face, mixed-mode, or online.
Preferred Qualifications:
An ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biological anthropology with a focus in forensic anthropology.
A successful research program that includes peer-reviewed publications, a record of external funding, and the ability to advise and mentor graduate students.
Research specializations that include the application of digital methods such as medical imagery technologies, AI/ML techniques, virtual or augmented reality, histological or biomolecular methods, or geospatial and remote sensing technologies. This may include applications in estimation of the biological profile, trauma, forensic archaeology, or taphonomy.
An ability to teach methodologically-focused courses by teaching classes such as quantitative, GIS, and/or mixed methods.
