The Graduate Career Strategist for the College of Education works with the Assistant Director for Career Education in the Office of Career & Life Design and the Director of Career Engagement in the College of Education to build and tailor career content, resources, and programming for graduate students and postdocs in the College of Education (COE). The goals of this position are to increase overall awareness and utilization of career and professional development resources and services for graduate students in COE. Selection made by committee and hiring supervisor based on review of on-line applications and results of personal interviews. Hiring decision contingent upon applicant clearing security background check. Work schedule will be determined by discussion with supervisor. This position will end Spring 2026.
Purpose
The purpose of this role is to increase awareness, engagement, and utilization of career and professional development resources among graduate students in the College of Education (COE), and to provide feedback to enhance and tailor services to better meet their needs.
Responsibilities
• Support and lead the development of a dedicated Canvas page for COE graduate students featuring career resources, event announcements, and professional development tools.
• Create and update career development content such as career/industry guides, networking and negotiation guides, example job documents, and other relevant resources.
• Conduct a gap analysis comparing the career and professional development needs of COE graduate students to existing resources, services and programming.
• Collect feedback and lead a needs assessment to better understand the career interests of COE graduate students and postdocs to inform continuous improvement of career services and programming.
• Assist in the planning and execution of workshops, panels, and other career-related events tailored to graduate students in COE.
• Raise awareness of graduate student-specific programming and resources through collaboration with departments and graduate student organizations within COE.
Required Qualifications
• Advanced experience with Microsoft Suite.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong research skills – finding quality career education resources and translating program feedback into ideas for new career education programming.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and organize information in a way that can be communicated with alumni, industry experts, university staff, and students/postdocs.
• Attention to detail, with the ability to review documents and presentations and provide suggestions for corrections and improvement.
• Ability to attend monthly team meetings, support in-person workshops and events, and communicate regularly with team members.
• Master’s or PhD students enrolled in at least 9 credit hours.
• Must be in good academic standing with advisor approval.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with career education resources, both internal and external to the university.
• Experience developing and utilizing Canvas.
• Interest in learning more about career development, professional development, and life design.
• Experience with outreach to various campus partners and stakeholders, including students, departments, alumni, industry experts, etc.
Salary Range
$20 per hour -10 hours per week
