What will a Truck Driver CDL A  do?

The Truck Driver CDL A position ensures safe and timely delivery of all donated goods, equipment, and other merchandise.  This movement is usually between the ADC’s, stores and Distribution Center, but may include other locations as needed

Job Functions/ Competencies

  • Through words and actions support Chattanooga Goodwill’s Mission, Vision, and Values; furthermore, actions and decisions will align with organizational guiding principles.
  • Maintain agency, employee, and participants confidentiality. Violation of confidentiality may be cause for termination.
  • Semi-trucks and Box Trucks are safely operated between ADC sites, stores, and the DC.
  • Conduct pre-trip, and post-trip inspections, report issues immediately.
  • Keep vehicle interior and exterior clean; no food, drink, tobacco, or personal electronics while driving.
  • Follow all traffic laws and company driving policies.
  • Never deviate from assigned routes or use vehicles for personal reasons.
  • Load/unload merchandise and donations safely using proper techniques and equipment.
  • Ensure secure placement of items to prevent damage or shifting during transport.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including PPE and hazardous material protocols.
  • Comply with FMCSA, NHTSA, and company safety standards.
  • Report accidents, damage, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Adhere to all company policies including vehicle policy.
  • Maintain accurate logs, inspection reports, and paperwork daily.
  • Report on time daily and follow assigned schedules.
  • Regular, reliable attendance is required.
  • Able to work flexible hours and adjust to changing schedules based on the business needs of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Valid CDL Class A license required.
  • Must pass a DOT physical and maintain a good Motor Vehicle Report.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional driving experience as a DOT-certified driver preferred.
  • Must meet all qualification standards under FMCSA Parts 383 and 391.
  • Thorough understanding of DOT, OSHA, TOSHA, NHTSA regulations and local codes.
  • Familiarity with FMCSA rules on safe driving, hours of service, inspections, and equipment maintenance.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to install/remove equipment like tire chains.
  • Knowledge of company policies, safety protocols, and loss prevention procedures.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities; able to set priorities and manage time effectively.
  • Able to work independently without constant supervision.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills across diverse backgrounds.
  • Able to promote teamwork and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Physically capable of pushing/pulling loads over 50 pounds regularly.
  • Dependable, conscientious, and safety focused.
  • Able to adapt to changing schedules and work based on the business needs of the organization.
