The Steamfitter performs skilled work in assembling, installing, repairing and maintaining high and low pressure steam hot water systems. This role also performs general plumbing duties when required. This position requires the steamfitter to be on the on-call rotation and to work other shifts as required.
Lays out, assembles, installs, maintains the following piping systems: Hydraulic, Pneumatic, steam, hot water, lubricating, cooling, sprinkling, industrial and processing systems.
Diagnoses problems, repairs and maintains heat radiation units, gas and oil-fired hot water boilers and piping, regulating devices, valves, steam trap pressure reducers, strainers, coils, and pumps.
Cuts, bends, threads, welds, or brazes iron, steel, copper or plastic pipe. Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment such as supports and hangers according to specifications.
Ensures installation and repair of systems and equipment adhere to code requirements and specifications.
Reads, interprets, and works from blueprints.
Operates and maintains tools and equipment of the steam fitting trade, cleans work area upon completion of projects.
Provides guidance and training in steamfitting work to maintenance personnel as required. May have lead responsibilities for special projects.

Four years progressively responsible experience in the steamfitting trade.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in applying the theory, thermodynamic principles, methods, and techniques used in the steamfitting trade. General knowledge of and skill in a variety of semi-skilled building construction or maintenance and repair practices and techniques used in the trade areas where assigned; of safety practices and procedures related to the assigned trade areas. General knowledge and skill in the use of tools and equipment of the trade. Skill in inspection and making adjustments, repairs and replacements to building fixtures and mechanical equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, to communicate effectively, to prepare estimates of time and material required for assigned work; to apply quality and safety standards, to complete logs and prepare records and reports, to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment or machinery, to work at heights up to 35 feet; manipulate heavy equipment, tools, supplies and /or exert for up to 70lbs; to concurrently manipulated multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work in hazardous or irritation environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions, to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
