Job Description
Ability to assist with repairs and installations of electrical equipment is a plus. Work experience performing hydraulic maintenance, repair or installations preferred. Utilizes hand tools, power tools, and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Must be able to read and follow job specifications, blueprints, and diagrams.
Other duties as assigned.
This position requires participation in the Pumping Operations Program as either a Pump Station Assistant (PSA) or a Pump Station Operator (PSO) at any time during your employment. As a non-pump station employee, you will receive training so you can assist the pump station crews during any pumping operations needed whether during normal work shifts, extended day or evening shifts, weekends, or holidays, etc. Both the PSA and PSO positions require intense training and mastery of the controls and operations of each pump station.
The Ft. Lauderdale Field Station works a four-day, ten-hour work week, Monday - Thursday from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Employment Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED required and 2+ years of experience in structure and facility maintenance or mechanical repair. The hiring range for this position is $49,171.20 to $57,241.60 (based on education and years of relevant work experience). Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Licenses
Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required without restriction to operate vehicles equipped with airbrakes and manual transmission. If selected candidate does not currently possess CDL, a CDL learner’s permit is required two months from the time of hire and District will provide six months from date of hire to obtain CDL. District willing to pay cost of CDL training program.
Position will be subject to random drug and alcohol screenings.
Ability to obtain certification in Rigging, Forklift Operations, First Response-Oil and Chemical Spills, CPR and First Aid.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during, and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions.
Primarily field work in general outdoor environment with regular exposure to unpredictable weather conditions; sun, heat, and rain.
Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests and operates equipment to complete assignments. Work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more. Work activities typically involve the following (but not limited to): basic water skills, exposure to various water contaminants, hazardous waste products, stinging/biting insects, snakes, alligators, and herbicides, walking/driving on rough terrain.
