MANTECH seeks a skilled Audio Visual (AV) Fiber Technician to support the buildout and sustainment of IP-based video distribution systems aboard U.S. Navy ships in Norfolk, VA. This is an on-site opportunity.This opportunity is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in fiber optic cable fabrication, installation, and maintenance in both lab and shipboard environments. As an AV Fiber Technician, you will assist in the configuration and life cycle support of unclassified video broadcast and surveillance systems, playing a vital role in ensuring reliable video communications across multiple maritime platforms. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Design, integrate, install, and maintain fiber optic systems for shipboard broadcast television, closed-circuit video surveillance, and entertainment and training systems aboard Navy, Coast Guard, and Military Sealift Command vesselsInterpret and apply system drawings, equipment schematics, and cable run sheetsIntegrate and mount equipment in racks; fabricate, run, and terminate fiber and copper cables; perform system-level testing and troubleshootingInstall, repair, and validate performance of fiber optic systemsConduct cable testing, including optical continuity and conformance checks, following established standardsIdentify and resolve defects in fiber optic products and servicesMaintain documentation and service records for fiber optic components and test activitiesAdhere to all safety protocols during fabrication, installation, and maintenance operations in both lab and shipboard settingsMinimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or Graduate Equivalent Degree (GED)5+ years of experience in fiber optic cable fabrication, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting3+ years of experience interpreting technical documentation, wiring schematics, and equipment diagrams2+ years of experience diagnosing and repairing television, video surveillance, or related distribution systemsPreferred Qualifications:Strong working knowledge of fiber optic systems, including tools, components, optical testing, and signal validationFamiliarity with U.S. Navy or other shipboard installation regulations, safety standards, and proceduresProficiency with desktop and laptop computers for system documentation, configuration, and maintenance trackingFamiliarity with RF television distribution systems using coaxial and fiber optic cablingUnderstanding of video surveillance infrastructure and equipmentExposure to satellite receiving and IP-based television systemsPhysical Requirements:Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of tools, equipment, or materialsAbility to climb ladders, scaffolding, and multiple flights of stairs aboard naval vesselsAbility to walk long distances on ship decks and piers in various weather conditionsAbility to bend, stoop, kneel, and work in confined or elevated spaces for extended periodsAbility to board and disembark ships using gangways, planks, or temporary access structuresAbility to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow shipboard safety protocols
