DAIRY/FROZEN DEPARTMENT MANAGER
Reports to: Store Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY
As the Dairy/Frozen Department Manager, you’ll oversee daily operations, ensuring well-stocked, high-quality products and a clean, organized department. You’ll lead a team, manage inventory, and maintain proper storage conditions while delivering excellent customer service. This role is essential to keeping our grocery store running smoothly, ensuring customers always find the fresh dairy and frozen foods they need.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee daily operations of the dairy and frozen foods department.
- Ensure shelves, coolers, and freezers are properly stocked, rotated, and maintained.
- Monitor product quality, freshness, and proper storage temperatures.
- Track inventory levels, place orders, and minimize shrink through proper handling.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and adjust orders based on sales trends.
- Supervise, train, and support department staff for productivity and efficiency.
- Assign tasks and schedules to maintain smooth department operations.
- Foster a positive and team-oriented work environment.
- Assist customers with product inquiries and special requests.
- Ensure staff provides knowledgeable and friendly customer service.
- Address customer concerns and resolve issues promptly.
- Maintain appealing product displays to enhance sales and customer experience.
- Implement promotional plans and pricing strategies to drive sales.
- Ensure signage and price tags are accurate and up to date.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- Monitor and maintain proper refrigeration and storage conditions.
- Follow company policies regarding loss prevention, security, and workplace safety.
- Work closely with store leadership and vendors to manage product selection and deliveries.
- Communicate department goals, challenges, and opportunities with management.
- Provide reports and updates on department performance as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

- Previous experience in grocery retail, dairy/frozen foods, or department management.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Knowledge of inventory management, ordering, and product rotation.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Basic math and reading skills for inventory tracking and sales reports.
- Proficiency with point-of-sale (POS) systems and inventory software.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work primarily in a grocery store environment, including cold storage areas.
- Frequent exposure to refrigerated and frozen environments, including extended periods in freezers and coolers.
- Occasionally work outside for tasks such as receiving deliveries or disposing of waste.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule including a variety of shifts, days, evenings, nights, and weekends including overtime, as needed
