About the Department

The Nursing Success Coach is Grant-Funded, 10-Month Part-Time Position

The Nursing Success Coach position is responsible for serving serves as a dedicated student support professional within the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. This role focuses on improving student retention, academic performance, and program completion rates—particularly for adult learners and nontraditional students—through proactive, individualized coaching. The Coach works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and community partners to promote student success, address barriers to learning, and strengthen pathways from program entry to licensure. This position is centered in holistic engagement and support of students. The position is primarily remote and will require access to and familiarity with remote learning venues. This position will be 24 hours per week.

Occasional meetings at different SUNY CCC locations and travel to regional employers and/or recruiting events will be required. Prolonged time sitting/standing working with computers and monitors, ability to walk/move across campus including walking up and down stairs, ability to lift up to 20 pounds (occasionally may be more), repeated motions may include keyboard typing. Typical office and indoor building environments, occasional outdoor activity may be required. Position Duties

Academic and Career Coaching (80%) -

  • Provide one-on-one and group coaching sessions to support nursing students in areas such as time management, study skills, test-taking strategies, and clinical readiness.
  • Guide students in setting achievable academic and career goals, with regular progress check-ins.
  • Help students develop personalized learning plans that address individual needs and learning styles.
  • Assist students with College processes and tools (i.e. course material in Brightspace Learning Management System)
  • Serve students as an inquiry-focused coach and listener to guide, support, and reflect with students to promote personal insight
  • Ongoing communication with grant Principal Investigator.
Retention and Persistence Report (10%) -
  • Monitor student academic performance and attendance; intervene early when concerns arise.
  • Connect students with campus resources, including tutoring, library services, counseling, childcare, and financial aid.
  • Collaborate with faculty to identify at-risk students and implement targeted support strategies.
Adult Learner and Student Advocacy (5%) -
  • Understand and address unique challenges faced by adult learners, including balancing education with work and family responsibilities.
  • Assist students with technology skills and online learning tools, particularly for those with limited prior exposure.
  • Build relationships with local healthcare employers to facilitate mentoring and job opportunities.
Program Development and Engagement (5%) -
  • Organize workshops on topics such as financial management, stress management, and clinical professionalism.
  • Contribute to the development of peer mentoring and study group programs.
  • Participate in recruitment and orientation activities for new and prospective students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be a high functioning user of Google and/or Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively and efficiently in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures involved in academic advising.
  • Understanding of community college philosophy and familiarity with challenges of adult student populations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to take initiative, be self-directed, and ability to follow through with completion of tasks and projects.
  • Grant administration experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates commitment to accomplishing work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner
  • Ability to effectively convey information verbally and in writing, demonstrate effective listening skills, and display respect for and openness to other people’s ideas and thoughts
  • Ability to accept changes to job requirements, policies, workload, etc., as well as learn new methods, procedures, or techniques resulting from change with the ability to clearly approach problems and find solutions
  • Demonstrates support for the College’s goal of becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and culturally aware community and practicing anti-racist/biased behaviors
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and online learning platforms such as Brightspace LMS
  • Remote Internet access for virtual meetings/student coaching sessions
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of student development and resources to promote student success; previous experience mentoring or precepting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with adult learners and diverse student populations

Other Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BSN) from an accredited institution
  • Current NY license in good standing as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience
  • Ability to work flexible hours which includes evenings and weekends to meet student availability.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for travel to off-campus sites, as required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing Education, Nursing, or related field.
  • Knowledge of the Nursing program and resources offered at SUNY CCC preferred.
  • Experience in community college or rural healthcare settings.
  • Familiarity with student retention and success strategies.
  • Knowledge of NCLEX preparation methods and nursing curriculum.
  • Grant administration experience preferred.
