Position: Art Lesson Creation & Model for Classrooms

Overview:
The Eastmont Foundation is funding a unique opportunity to expand access to quality art education across elementary classrooms. This position will focus on designing, modeling, and providing ready-to-use art lessons that empower elementary teachers—regardless of their art background—to confidently integrate art into their classrooms.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of State Art Standards (K–6)
    • Demonstrates a strong understanding of current state standards for elementary visual arts education.
    • Able to align lesson objectives, activities, and assessments with grade-appropriate standards.
  • Cultural Competency and Local Relevance
    • Ability to thoughtfully incorporate local cultural traditions, histories, and artists into lessons.
    • Shows sensitivity and respect when representing diverse communities, avoiding stereotypes or appropriation.
  • Curriculum Design Experience
    • Experience designing structured, developmentally appropriate lesson plans for elementary students.
    • Ability to create lessons that are practical, engaging, and easy for general education teachers to implement.
  • Commitment to Equity and Inclusion
    • Prioritizes representation of diverse voices and perspectives in art education.
    • Designs lessons that reflect a range of identities, cultures, and creative expression styles.
  • Resourcefulness and Budget Awareness
    • Demonstrates ability to create lessons using affordable, accessible, and commonly available classroom materials.
    • Understands the importance of cost-effective planning and consistency across grade levels.
  • Strong Communication and Collaboration Skills
    • Willing to gather feedback from staff or district leaders to inform and improve lesson content.
    • Can clearly articulate the instructional goals and teaching steps within each lesson.
    • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to gather feedback and refine lessons.
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills
    • Capable of meeting project deadlines and producing a consistent volume of high-quality lessons (e.g., 3–5 per grade level).
    • Keeps digital files well-organized and accessible for future use by teachers and curriculum teams.

Outcomes:

  • Teachers gain confidence and practical tools for teaching art.
  • Students experience consistent, high-quality art instruction.
  • A sustainable set of art resources is developed for long-term use across the district.

Qualifications:

  • Background in elementary education, fine arts, or art education.
  • Strong ability to design clear, engaging, and accessible instructional materials.
  • Experience modeling or coaching instructional practices preferred.
  • Creativity, organization, and strong communication skills.
