About the Department

About the Role:
As our Library Assistant II, you will perform a variety of routine duties associated with reference and technical services. The position has a strong customer service component, including applying and interpreting library policies.
Schedule:
Monday 4:00 pm-8:00 pm; Tuesday 4:00 pm-8:00 pm; Wednesday 4:00 pm-8:00 pm; Thursday 4:00 pm-8:00 pm; Friday 2:00 pm-6:00 pm; every third Saturday 9:30 am-6:00 pm and Sunday 1:00 pm-5:00 pm.
Position Duties
- Provides assistance to customers of all ages to meet information and recreational needs.
- Assists in collection maintenance tasks.
- Assists with the acquisition process.
- Answers directional questions in the library.
- Offers user support services, such as program registration, and meeting room reservations.
- Prepare new materials for addition to collection.
- Contacts users via telephone or email as needed.
- Assists in preparing publicity materials and library displays.
- Plans, prepares and presents library programs.
- Conducts shelf-reading of collection to maintain order in the collection.
- Cross trains and works in all departments as needed.
- Provides circulation services for customers, including registration and assistance with self-checkout.
- As needed, supports the materials handling process, including check-in, sorting, shelving, and retrieving materials requested by patrons.
- Helps plan and deliver outreach programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree or two years of college.
- At least one year of customer service experience required.
- Fluency in Spanish desirable.

- Ability to understand and perform assigned library procedures and apply library policy.

- Excellent written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of computer functions and office equipment.
- Attentive to details and strives for accuracy.
- Ability to organize assigned work.
Moderate Work:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push or pull a cart weighing up to 150 pounds or more. Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to use a computer for long periods of time.
Inside:
Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Inside work 95% of the time and outside work 5% of the time.
