How We Serve
The Recreation Services Division offers a variety of activities, sports, excursions, and aquatic programming for all ages. Activities and programs are offered at the West Hollywood Park Aquatic and Recreation Center, Plummer Park, and Kings Road Park.
The Division’s goal is to provide quality leisure service experiences to all residents and guests in a fun, safe environment at an affordable cost to strengthen our community image and sense of place, promote health and wellness, increase cultural unity, and support economic development.
What You'll Contribute
The City of West Hollywood is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and passionate recreation professional to join our team as a Recreation Leader I! The Recreation Leader I is responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of recreational programs, including special events, community activities, and seasonal programs.
As a Recreation Leader I, you will teach classes and facilitate activities, develop promotional or marketing materials for recreation programs, coordinate the rental of facilities, monitor park facilities and enforce rules and regulations, meet with citizens and community organizations to provide program information, maintain and order program supplies, perform customer service including responding to phone calls, emails, registering guests for activities, collecting fees, and complete a variety of reports.
The ideal candidate for this position will:
- Have current or recent experience assisting in the oversight, instruction, and execution of recreation/education type programs and activities.
- Have experience preparing and monitoring program budgets.
- Have experience in facility management including coordinating rentals, setting up and breaking down events, distributing equipment, and collecting fees.
- Be comfortable interpreting and enforcing facility and program rules and regulations.
- Be a strong communicator and have excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships with members of the public, community groups, and staff.
- Be an excellent writer to complete various administrative reports and correspondences.
- Demonstrate a collaborative attitude and emotional maturity to understand different perspectives and mediate conflict.
- Be creative in using programs like social media and Canva to promote events and programming.
- Have experience with registration/reservation and point of sale (POS) software such as ACTIVENet and Class or similar programs.
- Have the ability to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays, evenings, and weekends.
Note: There is currently one (1) half-time regular vacancy. Employees in this classification work an average of 20 hours per week. This position is represented by the West Hollywood Municipal Employees (WEHOME) MOU. Employment benefits are prorated based on FTE. The City's Recreation Services Division operates Sunday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Work locations include: West Hollywood Aquatic and Recreation Center (ARC) and Plummer Park.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED (desirable)
- One year of coursework from college or technical school desired; and,
- One to two years of progressively responsible related experience; or
- Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
- CPR/First Aid Certification (desirable)
