Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Facility Safety Technician will work to ensure compliance with safety and health regulations at the federal, state, and local level. This role is responsible for the execution of the Safety Management System, fostering an atmosphere of safety awareness at the facility, and involvement with 5-S and Lean Manufacturing.

How you can help the team: 

  1. Conduct new hire safety orientations
  2. Conduct on-the-job safety training for new hires and job transfers
  3. Conduct crane and forklift operator training and annual evaluations
  4. Assist in all safety incident investigations, ensure completion of all reporting, and manage implementation of all corrective measures
  5. Assist in taking teammates to the clinic to drug test if an incident were to occur.
  6. Ensure Safety Management System is implemented at the facility (forms, policies, procedures, revisions, etc.)
  7. Point person for all internal and external safety audits/inspections and recommended corrective actions
  8. Work with the HR Generalist/Plant Management to schedule hearing tests and noise monitoring assessments as needed
  9. Conduct routine safety inspections, observe general work practices, and enforce safety policies and procedures; when an unsafe work practice is observed, coach employees on safe work procedures
  10. Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials
  11. Maintain the Job Safety Analysis program
  12. Schedule, lead, and document all safety committee meetings
  13. Assist as needed in leading shift safety meetings; post and communicate safety messages/alerts from corporate safety as needed
  14. Schedule, conduct, and properly document monthly safety training topics with all employees
  15. Monitor compliance with the environmental health and safety program
  16. Ability to occasionally travel overnight as required
  17. Maintains and participates in 5-S projects that are performed in the plant
  18. Other duties as assigned

What you need to be successful:

  • High school diploma and at least 1 year of experience with an excellent safety record is preferred
  • The following certifications are strongly preferred
    • Forklift Trainer
    • OSHA 30 Hour General Industry
    • Certified First Responder (First Aid, CPR, AED)
    • Certification in 5S
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Ability to work independently to analyze and evaluate problems and solutions
  • Ability to readily respond to emergencies
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to correctly retrieve and input data using Intelex incident management system
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety rules and requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a safety sensitive position. This work consists of an equal distribution of time between an office setting, characterized by minimal to moderate noise stemming from computers, printers, and people, and a manufacturing setting where noise levels range from moderate to high due to machinery and equipment. There may be a slight inclination towards spending more time in the manufacturing setting.  The temperature of the facility will vary based on outside weather conditions. The user of personal protective equipment for safety compliance may be required as deemed necessary by management.
