About the Department

This is a confidential secretarial position which supports the Director of Human Resource Management.  The employee performs complex clerical tasks and exercises discretion and independent judgment in dealing with highly confidential material relating to human resource management issues and in interacting with the public and other departments and agencies.  General supervision is received from the Director of Human Resource Management. Performs related work as required.

CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.

Position Duties

  • Serves as an agent for the Director in procuring information and responding to inquiries from the public, other units of city government and other agencies;
  • Receives telephone inquiries directed to the Director from the general public about employment, referring them to information sources or setting up appointments with the Director as appropriate;
  • Types a variety of written correspondence, reports, and minutes, including confidential documents;
  • Receives and routes mail, dealing with items of a routine nature independently, and locating relevant background material needed by the Director to deal with non-routine matters;
  • Composes routine correspondence;
  • Compiles data for reports;
  • Schedules appointments for the Director of Human Resource Management.

Minimum Qualifications

A.  )Associate's degree in Secretarial Science or closely related field and two (2) years experience performing secretarial duties;
                                                                         OR
B.)  High school diploma or GED plus four (4) years experience, as described in section A. above
