JOB SUMMARY
The Intern position is a temporary position used for education or on the job training for students from a college or technical school. The position runs congruently with schooling, or summer break between the last semesters before graduation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Must be able to assist or function in the shop area which they are assigned.
• Must be willing to work days, nights and weekend shifts as directed.
• Must work putting safety and efficiency as a priority.
• Must be able to do other miscellaneous tasks as assigned by service operations manager, lead man or other person in a position of authority.
• Interns may be asked to work in different departments to help gain a better understanding of all facets of Wyoming Machinery Company.
• Must work with a positive attitude and in a spirit of cooperation.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
• Assist in special projects, as needed.
• Answer telephone calls, complete service reports and maintain records as required.
• Actively participate in and occasionally lead safety meetings.
• Provide daily progress updates to supervisor and dispatchers.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY
• Must be currently enrolled in a college, university or technical school studying diesel mechanics, machining, welding or hydraulics.
• Students must be in good standing with thi=eri educational institution to be enrolled in the program.
• Poor attendance, dishonesty, low test scores or anything else that disqualifies a passing grade will disqualify the person from the internship.
• Interns must be able to speak, read and understand English.
• Must have good written and oral communication skills.
• Read and understand parts books, service manuals and electrical and hydraulic schematics.
• Interns, with guidance, should be able to safely rig or hook for lifting any part or component of a machine.
• Interns must have a mechanical background, must have the ability to think and work their way through difficult projects or problems.
• Must have basic computer skills. Must be able to send and receive e-mail.
• Interns must have the ability to read and comprehend service literature and basic measuring tools and to know and understand basic arithmetic.
• Must be able to write meaningful and legible service reports.
• Must be capable of understanding the various types of systems on a large number of different kinds of equipment, and must be able to use their ability in a meaningful and productive manner during the course of their daily job assignment (with guidance when necessary).
• Willing to work overtime as needed.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
• Walk and/or stand 5-12 hours on concrete floor in the shop or outside.
• Sit 1-3 hours.
• Use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
• Working in elevated position, climbing, bending, stooping and squatting
• Walking on un-level ground with many slip, trip and fall hazards
• Adverse weather conditions, i.e., water, mud, etc.
• Exposed to extreme temperatures, dirt, grease, dust, noise and other elements within the work environment
• Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs
• Use of all necessary personal protective equipment
