We’re seeking a Production Team Leader to oversee the day-to-day operations of our manufacturing facility. This position drives a culture of safety, product quality, on-time delivery, throughput, and cost management while ensuring compliance with OSHA, State, and Federal employment laws, as well as company policies and procedures. The Production Team Leader leads all plant employees, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement to meet customer and business goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and promote a strong safety culture by ensuring a safe working environment, proper equipment operation, and compliance with all OSHA and regulatory standards. Ensure that the employees are following all safety and OSHA regulations as well as performing safety checks and preventative maintenance. Actively spend 30% of work time on the production floor engaging with employees to reinforce safety and operational excellence.
- Provide strong leadership to enhance profitability by implementing cost-saving practices and maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Schedule inbound materials, labor, production, and finished product deliveries based on sales demands. Confirm deliveries with customers on a regular basis.
- Manage the quality of the products being produced, distributed, and sold to our customers while abiding by industry standards.
- Maintain the plant’s profits by managing the safety of the environment, the quality of the products, and the levels of inventory in order to control and prevent losses while maintaining efficient levels of product as needed.
- Ensure that labor costs are within guidelines and cost control measures are in place to meet profitability based on company goals. Manage through any deficiencies, seeking assistance when needed.
- Provide effective leadership and direction to all plant personnel, including office staff, production employees, and drivers. Maintain optimal staffing levels and oversee temp-to-hire workforce to meet production requirements.
- Communicate proactively with sales, corporate office, customers, and other locations to ensure alignment on production, delivery, and service expectations. Communicate operational issues to management on a timely basis. Communication must always be clear, positive, professional, and cooperative.
- Hire and evaluate staff including recruitment, provide any necessary/required employee training, and administer the progressive coaching/disciplinary process when needed.
- Operate machinery as needed including laminators, forklifts, bandsaws, and balers.
- Perform mechanical and pneumatic trouble shooting on machinery.
- Ensure compliance with Federal DOT Regulations and company driver policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with daily and weekly UL and Home Innovation Research Lab testing requirements.
- Manage vehicle, building, grounds issues through weekly evaluations. Work with Leasing/Fleet to correct issues.
- Perform all other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- 2-year associate degree or equivalent required.
- Four-year degree preferred.
- Requires a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience within a production or manufacturing environment.
Experience working with freight companies such as LTL and TL desired, as well prior TMS experience.
- Familiarity with DOT Regulations preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred in certain locations
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office required
- Forklift experience preferred, or willingness to be certified on operation
- Excellent customer service and communication skills required
- Demonstrated ability to lead in difficult situations with tact and diplomacy required
- Organizational skills required
- Problem solving and conflict resolution skills required
- Ability to multi-task
- Mechanical aptitude preferred, including the ability to troubleshoot and resolve machine issues
- Ability to work under pressure required
