Veterinary Talent Development Specialist 
 
The Veterinary Talent Development Specialist is crucial to our organizational success, responsible for designing, implementing, and organization of talent and development programs for paraprofessional veterinary roles including Practice Managers (PMs), Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants and Customer Service Representatives (CSRs). This role focuses on creating effective orientation, onboarding, and ongoing talent development initiatives, ensuring that all people in these key positions are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to work and grow in a veterinary practice environment.
The specialist will work remotely while collaborating with core stakeholders to identify training needs, develop curriculum, and evaluate program effectiveness and support talent processes. Additionally, this role will support the advancement of our Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring relevant curriculum is accessible across all roles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
Program Development and Implementation
  • Design and develop comprehensive development programs for team members, including orientation, onboarding, continuous education, and specialized training.
  • Design learning and development programs using various methods such as in-person training, e-learning, workshops, and seminars.
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices and incorporate them into learning and development programs. 
Curriculum Development
  • Create and maintain training materials, manuals, and resources tailored to an exceptional development program for paraprofessionals.
  • Ensure all training materials are up-to-date, accurate, and compliant with industry standards and regulations.
  • Develop specialized training modules for advanced skills and certifications. 
Orientation and Onboarding
  • Develop and design comprehensive orientation and onboarding plans for all paraprofessional staff.
  • Ensure managers have all the tools and resources necessary to effectively onboard and train new team members. 
Talent Assessment and Evaluation
  • Partner with other functional teams (HR, Operations, Clinical) to support the design and deployment of cyclical talent assessment processes.
  • Ensure that programs are designed and deployed that support talent opportunities that exist in the business.   
Collaboration and Communication
  • Work closely with operations and other subject matter experts to ensure learning and development content is relevant and practical.
  • Communicate objectives and outcomes to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the HR department to ensure talent, learning and development programs align with overall company goals and employee development plans.
Learning Management System (LMS)  
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to create, curate, prioritize, and implement virtual learning content into an LMS.
  • Create a cohesive plan to consolidate and simplify all virtual learning content, including synchronous, asynchronous, interactive, and modular learning content.
  • Implement and launch the rollout of a new Learning Management System across UVC Hospitals and Support Center  
  • Identify and critically evaluate existing programming relevant for all roles – required and optional.
  • Determine where content gaps exist and create a plan to construct or curate that curriculum as needed. 
  • Identify content that needs to be developed internally
  • Project manage the build of programming and hold creators accountable for content and deadlines.
  • Analyze data as team members use LMS to determine areas of opportunity.
  • Measure the impact of programs and learning activities and drive progress in alignment with strategic plan for team member development.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Education, Veterinary Technology (required).  Additional credentials, such as VTS, or CVPM, a plus. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in veterinary practice, with at least 2 years in a leadership or training role.
  • Experience in creating and delivering learning and development programs for veterinary paraprofessional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary practice operations.
  • Proven ability to design and implement effective training programs.
  • Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Suite products including Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including cross-functional collaboration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Frequent work at a computer for 90-100% of the time.
  • Travel expectations are 10% or less.   
  • Frequent to moderate noise level in the work environment.
  • Frequent ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form to solve problems involving several variables.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch as well as manipulate (lift, carry and move) up to 15 pounds.
