The 1:1 YTC will provide direct support and care for a client with a complex seizure disorder, daily seizures, and gastrostomy tube (G-tube) feeds. This position involves close collaboration with the school nurse, teachers, and other staff to ensure the client’s safety and well-being throughout the school day.
Essential Job Functions
Medical Support:
- Monitor the client for signs and symptoms of seizure activity.
- Follow seizure action plan, including administering emergency interventions (ex: rescue medication through nasal route or G-tube) as directed by the school nurse and healthcare plan.
- Administer G-tube feedings per physician orders and nursing delegation.
- Maintain a clean and safe feeding environment by adhering to proper hygiene practices.
Safety and Supervision:
- Provide close and continuous supervision throughout the school day.
- Monitor and ensure the client’s safety during all school routines, particularly during episodes of seizure activity.
Other Job Functions
Communication and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate daily documentation of medical care provided (ex: feeding log, seizure log, incidents).
- Communicate promptly with the school nurse and relevant staff regarding changes in the client’s condition or needs.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 25/50 lbs. or more.
- Must be able to assume and maintain various postures, including kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, and standing, for extended periods.
- Must be able to perform or assist with physical interventions, either restraints or containments.
Working Conditions
- Full-time in-person work required.
- Several shift opportunities: Sun-Weds days, overnight, swing shift; Weds-Sat days, overnight, swing shift.
- Travel will utilize company vehicles to transport clients to community activities.
- Most of the work will occur on our campus in the residential cottages as well as in the greater community.
- Casual work attire.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have at least 1-2 years of work experience in a medical field.
- Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services/related field or equivalent experience required.
- Must be willing to contribute to a positive home environment for children and collaborative working relationships with TCC staff.
- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
- All candidates must have or qualify to obtain a current Colorado driver's license. (Must obtain a Colorado license within 30 days of employment.)
- All positions require a criminal CBI background check, FBI fingerprint check, State of CO child abuse check, DMV driving record check, pre-employment drug test, pre-employment physical, academic credential verification, and reference check.
- Experience in a residential setting or with children with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Motivation to obtain specialized training that would enhance your daily work and professional development is preferred.
