Job Summary: 

 

CASES Short-term Alternatives and Referrals to Treatment (newSTART) program is a short-term alternative-to-incarceration (ATI) program that provides rapid screening, identification of need, and brief interventions (individual and group) for individuals with extensive low-level involvement in the criminal legal system who are at risk of jail sentences. The program supports individuals with a range of needs, including severe substance use disorders, serious mental illness, education/employment needs, homelessness, tenuous engagement in treatment/social services, and repeated misdemeanor arrests primarily for theft and drug possession. The newSTART team employs a harm reduction approach with a main goal of helping clients begin to engage in community-based services. 

 

The Team Leader, Community, Support, and Supervision is responsible for the direct clinical services and supervision of a multidisciplinary team delivering court-ordered brief supervision and voluntary services. CASES seeks a mission-driven manager with advanced clinical and administrative leadership. The purpose of the newSTART ATI is to engage annually one thousand individuals at risk of jail sentences. The teams respond to participant needs and risks using a harm reduction approach to help clients begin to engage in community-based services. CASES is looking for supervisors committed to social justice, evidence-based practices, and the goals of public safety and harm reduction, and the principles of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed service. 

 

Salary:  The salary range for the Team Leader, Community, Support, Supervision position is $85,000-$95,000 per year.  

 

Shift Hours: The Team Leader, Community, Support, and Supervision position is full-time from Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm. 


Location Address: 2090 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd, New York, NY 10027 - Some travel between court/or to external meetings (less than 5% of work time). 


Workplace Flexibility: Positions for which staff have flexibility to complete their work day from home or another suitable space, typically after reporting to the office and/or engaging in field or community-based work.  

 

What you will be doing: 

 

  • Provide hands-on clinical and administrative supervision to the newSTART team (approximately 12 employees).
  • Collaborate with the CASES court-based arraignment team to deliver seamless integration of intake and programming and attain contract goals (1,400 intake assessments annually).
  • Lead staff organizational meetings to regularly review participant progress using a team-based approach along with clinical staff meetings for comprehensive service planning, staff training, and supervision.
  • Ensure the team provides excellent brief-intervention evidence-based services, including collaborating effectively with the CASES’ Nathaniel Clinic, Health Home Care Management Plus program and the co-located Institute for Family Health (IFH) primary care clinic, for the delivery of jointly coordinated services.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Improvement and Data Reporting Teams to define implementation, process, and outcome measures assessing program effectiveness and to continuously monitor performance against measures defined by the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) and NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).  
  • Optimize use of the ECM database for program operations, including data tracking, reporting, and training staff on effective utilization. · Cultivate and maintain relationships with funders, including participating in meetings and ensuring program alignment with funding requirements. 
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the program budget in coordination with CASES leadership. 
  • Build and strengthen relationships with community resources to support referrals and service delivery.
  • Help ensure we maintain a safe working environment by reporting any hazards or unsafe conditions, e.g., liquid spill in hallway, to the appropriate facilities staff member or supervisor.
  • Other duties as required by the Senior Director, and CASES leadership.

 

What we are looking for: 

 

  • Master’s degree in Relevant field OR equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience working with criminal legal-involved adults with mental health needs (including substance use)
  • Tenacity and ability to think outside the box and motivate staff
  • Sitting at a desk or computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional standing and walking.
  • Visual acuity to read documents, review reports, and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Precise manual dexterity for using computer and other office equipment.
  • Some travel including to local meetings

 

 

Additional, preferred skills we are looking for but are not required: 

 

  • Lived experience similar to the clients we serve
  • Spanish speaking a plus
