About the Department
Join our team at Renton Technical College (RTC) as a College & Career Pathways (CCP) Navigator! The CCP Navigator advocates for CCP students (ESL, GED, HS+, Bilingual HS+, and undecided students). The primary function of this role is to support CCP students during the intake and enrollment process, and helps students overcome any barriers from entry to enrollment and beyond. The person in this position will effectively build relationships with students / colleagues and develop an understanding of systematic and logistical processes. This role is responsible for understanding the needs of each student and facilitates their enrollment into classes. The CCP Navigator has an in-depth knowledge of enrollment processes and programming. As a result, they are a vital representative in college-wide meetings and initiatives to evaluate opportunities for merging with broader college systems and processes.
This position is a full-time, classified, overtime eligible position reporting directly to the Director of Entry Services in partnership with the Dean and Associate Dean of CCP. Working hours are Monday – Friday, including regular evening hours 2-3 times a week, with the opportunity for flexibility based on operational needs. This position is represented by the Renton Professional Technical Association (Prof-Tech) union at RTC. The salary range for this position is $65,673 - $84,489 annually. New hires may not be placed above step 10 ($80,573 annually). Position Duties
- Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically marginalized populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Onboard and guide all students enrolled in College and Career Pathways (CCP) programs (ESL, GED, HS+, Bilingual HS+, etc).
- Respond to inquiries utilizing multiple means of communication (i.e. text, email, phone call).
- Contact and meet with prospective, new, and returning students to answer questions and provide information about enrollment requirements for transitional studies students.
- Assists students in completing admissions application and intake forms.
- Monitors and follows-up with student pipeline from inquiry to first quarter of enrollment.
- Provides individual, one-on-one advising to CCP students on degree requirements and proper course selection using both in-person and virtual services.
- In collaboration with CCP entry team, build and carry out intake and orientation sessions for new CCP students.
- Advise prospective students and families including traditional and non-traditional students about the admissions and enrollment process.
- Adhere to FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.
- Makes referrals to appropriate resources necessary for student success.
- Collaborates with faculty to maintain effective services to aid students engaged in various learning modalities (FLEX, In-Person, Online).
- Serve as an active member of the Entry Services team and collaborate to improve processes.
- Run queries, tracks, and organize data to make a data-informed recommendations to the Student Services and CCP leadership teams
- Participates in college committees, community engagement, and outreach events as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution OR a combination of education and/or work experience in education or social services setting mentoring, coaching, counseling, or advising.
- Two or more years of professional experience in an advising setting at a college or university serving underrepresented student populations is preferred.
- Proficient with student information systems, virtual learning/advising platforms, Microsoft Office, and ability to learn new technologies and universal design.
- Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners.
- Demonstrated experience working with students who have unique barriers and assisting with their educational goals.
- Previous experience working with students who are learning English or aiming to complete their high school credentials.
- Familiarity with BEdA programs and systems, including LACES/formally WABERS and CASAS (administration, scoring, and integration with program requirements) is preferred.
- Exceptional customer services skills with the ability to place a high priority on professional excellence.
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting, reviewing and applying program specific policies, procedures and regulations.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
- Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
- Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working hours are Monday – Friday, including regular evening hours 2-3 times a week, with the opportunity for flexibility based on operational needs. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
