Job Summary:  The MMF Maintenance Technician Assistant performs a variety of tasks and duties associated with the cleaning, maintenance and repair of site facilities including buildings and installed equipment at the MMF.  The MMF Maintenance Technician Assistant will also be required to safely operate a wide variety of power equipment such as drills, grinders, power saws, and various attachments and other similar equipment.  The MMF Maintenance Technician Assistant will comply with all policies, regulations and guidance as defined in the MMF Facility Manual, Operating Permits, and all other documents applicable to the safe and efficient performance of the daily landfill operations.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Clean facilities, clean equipment, and perform recycling and landscaping tasks.
  • Perform periodic, in-house inspections, run errands including picking up parts, and repair road signs.
  • Perform minor carpentry repairs and painting facilities.
  • Perform hydro-seeding, lay geo-textile fabric, place snow makers and clean culverts.
  • Repair and maintain landfill-related tools and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate work order sheets to include the materials used and the work performed, as directed by the Landfill Superintendent, or designee.
  • Monitor and report to the Landfill Superintendent any equipment failures and/or concerns.
  • Perform daily maintenance, equipment inspections, and safety checks on equipment and vehicles.
  • Coordinate repair/maintenance requirements with Landfill Superintendent and Lead Maintenance Technician.
  • Assist with performing site maintenance tasks such as sewer jetting, plastic pipe welding, minor repairs, and leachate tank cleaning.
  • Perform manual labor as required, including, but not limited to, mowing, litter picking, hydro seeding, tree cutting, snow and ice control and removal, etc.
  • Maintain operational supplies, to include any required materials for the performance of daily activities and any special, assigned projects.
  • Assist other personnel with maintenance tasks.
  • Attend all training sessions assigned, with satisfactory completion.
  • Perform related duties to support the overall operations and objective of the Authority.

 

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Proficient with MS Office (Outlook). Knowledge of/familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management System software, and other relevant software.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance and repair of landfill-related tools and facilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Working knowledge in welding, plumbing, electrical and carpentry.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions, walk long distances in snow and muddy conditions, climb ladders and slopes to access work sites.
  • Demonstrates strong judgement, critical thinking, and effective decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage, adjust and prioritize a varied workload based on such factors as work objectives and business needs.

 

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional education or certifications relevant for the position preferred.
  • Vocational training in equipment repair, plumbing/ HVAC, electrical, carpentry or another similar field preferred.
  • Associate’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.

 

Professional Certification/Licenses:

  • None

 

Experience:

  • One years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, tools, and facilities with a demonstrated degree of proficiency.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be acceptable.

 

Pre-employment Physical Exam and Drug Test Required:  Yes

 

Annual Physical Exam Required:  Yes

 

Minimum Driver’s License:  Class D NYS regular operator.

 

Travel Requirements:  <10%

 

Typical Work Schedule:  Regularly works Monday through Friday during normal business hours and requires willingness to work a flexible schedule when needed.

 

Environmental:  Outdoor Environment:  Works outdoors with exposure to weather conditions (rain, snow, sun, wind, extreme cold and heat.)
