Role Description

Based in Itasca, Illinois, you will lead the electronics R&D engineering team in developing new hardware and software controls used within residential and commercial appliances and electric vehicles.

You will be responsible for managing hardware and software staff, performing staff assessments, coaching through technical challenges, and motivating the team to deliver innovative controls solutions.

You will be directly involved with hardware design activities including contributing to design work, leading team in design best-practices, and guiding the sustaining engineering team as needed. You will also be the line manager for the software developers and support the software technical leads as needed.

The position involves direct work with Robertshaw’s customers, and you will guide the team in clear and appropriate communication with them during project development and field troubleshooting meetings.

You will be working closely with product management to quote project resource effort, timeline, and BOM cost for new opportunities and sustaining engineering updates. 

This position is based in Itasca, Illinois. Expected travel < 20% with ability to travel internationally.

Experience and Competencies

  • Minimum 7 years of hardware product development experience.
  • Minimum 2 years as an engineering manager or team lead with direct staff management experience.
  • Strong aptitude for leadership and motivating team in collaborating across multiple worksites.
  • Solid understanding of electronics systems, sub-systems, circuits, and components. Technical leader for team, making decisions for electronics design and test as well as decisions for cost and performance tradeoff.
  • Experience designing for high-volume manufacturing to ensure designs consider DFM, testability, sustainability, and sourcing needs. 
  • Experience leading RCA/EDA analysis and presenting appropriate information to customers.
  • Experience leading DFMEA failure mode analysis.
  • Ability to manage department staff time and prioritize work across multiple projects.
  • Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Schematic and PCB CAD tools experience.
  • Software or Firmware development or project management experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma green belt certification.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Graduate coursework is desirable.
