This position supports the Culinary Services team at the College of Saint Benedict, which includes the McGlynn’s Retail Dining operation. The role is primarily focused on food production and customer service. Key responsibilities include assisting with the preparation and assembly of menu items. The position will be responsible and accountable for daily production, timely service, and quality of product prepared and served. In addition, the lead will assist in the supervision of student employees in McGlynn’s.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.
Position Duties
- Assemble, produce, package, and label quality menu items in accordance with menus, production worksheets and standard recipes.
- Set up service lines prior to opening each day to ensure readiness for meal service.
- Stock and maintain assigned food stations with high-quality products; keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with sanitation standards.
- Handle cash and operate point-of-sale systems while maintaining accurate records of sales, refunds, and other transactions.
- Keep retail shelves and coolers clean, organized, and fully stocked throughout service hours.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and in accordance with all safety protocols.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines consistently.
- Use proper lifting techniques and follow ergonomic best practices during physical tasks.
- Train/supervise student employees and train support staff on the grill line, deli line, and production
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Shift times and days may change depending on the needs of the operation and this position typically includes summers off. Schedule shift examples are 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. or 1:30–9:30 p.m. This role is expected to work primarily mid-shifts, with the possibility of being called in early or shifted to a later schedule when coverage is needed. The position also includes working every other weekend.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent education and experience.
- Previous experience in food service, catering, or food production.
- ServSafe certification preferred; must be obtained within six months of employment if not already certified.
- Ability to train, mentor, and support staff and student employees.
- Demonstrated ability to project a positive, service-oriented image.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
- Willingness to learn, adapt, and maintain a high level of competence in assigned duties.
- Availability to work rotating shifts, overtime, and evening/weekend hours as needed based on departmental scheduling requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to tolerate temperature fluctuations.
- Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, and moving of the entire body, such as standing, walking, climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, and handling of materials for extended periods of time.
- Use of and exposure to products containing detergents, degreasers, and sanitizing solutions
