The Mortgage Servicing Specialist is responsible for the accurate and compliant servicing of mortgage loans, in alignment with regulatory requirements established by the CFPB, RESPA, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), investors, and other governing bodies. This role encompasses a range of key servicing functions, support mortgage servicing by finalizing new loan paperwork, organizing documents for review, managing insurance payments, assisting with property damage claims, and reporting on homes affected by natural disasters. The Mortgage Servicing Specialist is also expected to perform essential servicing duties such as processing loan payoffs and releases, applying payments, and delivering exceptional service to both internal teams and external members. Attention to detail, regulatory awareness, and a commitment to service excellence are critical to success in this role.
Responsibilities:- Post-close new mortgage loans by conducting thorough document reviews and validating data accuracy within the core system; promptly correct any discrepancies or missing information
- Scan, upload, and file mortgage loan documents, including preparing documentation for audit reviews as needed
- Process and pay insurance invoices for both first and second mortgage loans in accordance with policy
- Research and resolve insurance payment discrepancies, ensuring timely updates to the core system
- Manage loss draft claims with accuracy and efficiency, ensuring compliance and timely FEMA reporting for mortgages in disaster-impacted areas
- Process mortgage lien releases in full compliance with applicable state and local regulations, ensuring completion within required timeframes
- Prepare and distribute final loan documents to members in a timely and accurate manner
- Process mortgage payoff requests and loan verifications with precision and efficiency
- Review monthly Home Equity Line of Credit expiration reports and send notification letters to affected member.
- Accurately process mortgage payment transactions and investigate any discrepancies to ensure prompt resolution
- Respond to member inquiries related to mortgage loans via email, mail, fax, or phone, delivering exceptional service across all channels
- Perform additional duties as assigned, supporting the overall success of the Mortgage Servicing team
- Remain cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year experience in mortgage lending or mortgage loan servicing, specifically related to mortgage loan operations
- Working knowledge of regulatory guidelines, including CFPB, RESPA, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), and the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA)
- Familiarity with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac investor servicing requirements
- Understanding of legal documentation associated with mortgage loans, including Power of Attorney (POA)
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact effectively across various channels
- Proficient in using standard office equipment and systems, with a strong working knowledge of Micosoft Office applications
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Ability to work onsite at NWFCU Headquarters in Herndon, VA
- Availability to work Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
Preferred
Knowledge of credit union operations, policies and procedures, and credit union account structure
Knowledge of Mortgage Hazard insurance payments and processing Loss Draft Claims
Prior experience with post-closing newly funded loans
