About the Role
This position serves as a Senior Manager / Director within our Government Audit Group. You will lead large-scale governmental audit engagements, oversee the delivery of high-quality audit services, and play a pivotal role in firm leadership and client development.
As a senior leader, you will:
Direct all aspects of governmental audits including Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFR), single audit reports, and compliance reporting (USFR).
Serve as the primary point of contact for senior government officials and boards, providing expert-level advisory guidance.
Train, mentor, and coach staff at all levels to build a high performing, engaged team.
Develop and implement strategies for growing the government audit practice while maintaining a culture of excellence and accountability.
Act as a thought leader on government auditing standards and practices, guiding internal teams and clients through complex audit and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and technical direction for multiple, concurrent governmental audit engagements.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, GAAS, Government Auditing Standards, and Uniform Guidance (Single Audits).
Review and oversee preparation of governmental conversion entries and complex accounting resolutions.
Build and lead high-performing teams, emphasizing staff training, career development, and succession planning.
Deliver executive-level client presentations and support client boards and committees.
Collaborate with firm leadership on business development, marketing, and client growth strategies.
Ensure engagement profitability through sound resource allocation, scheduling, and budgeting practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required); Master’s degree preferred.
Licensed CPA (required).
15+ years of progressive experience in governmental auditing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (Senior Manager/Director/Partner track).
Extensive experience with Arizona school district audits and other governmental entities (municipalities, counties, special districts).
Demonstrated expertise in government auditing standards, compliance, and single audit requirements.
Proven track record of staff development, training, and coaching at multiple levels.
Strong executive presence, with excellent communication, client relationship, and public presentation skills.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Familiarity with ProFx Engagement, CCH ProSystems, Tyler Technologies, Suralink (preferred).
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive senior leadership salary range: $135K – $175K, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
