The SFU Surrey Community Counselling centre provides free individual counselling to the public, by students in the SFU Counselling Psychology Master’s program. Counsellor-Trainees are enrolled in EDUC 799/800 (Supervised Clinic I and II) and provide counselling under faculty supervision on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon/evenings. The Centre is staffed by a director, who is also one of two Clinic instructors. The SFU Surrey Community Counselling Centre is operated by the Counselling Psychology Master’s program in the Faculty of Education, SFU.  

About the Role

The clinic reception provides support for clinic operations while student counsellors are completing their supervised clinic course from September to April.  The successful candidate will be directly involved in supporting the smooth functioning of the counselling centre.

Qualifications

High school graduation and general courses or training of short duration (up to two weeks) in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications and office practices. 1 year of experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times following SCC and SFU policies and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
  • Experience in a clinical client service role in counselling, healthcare, or other confidential clinical setting.
  • Ability to interact in a caring and professional way with vulnerable populations and distressed individuals in a mental health setting.

Additional Information

The assignment end date is December 24, 2025.

Priority will be given to qualified registered SFU students who must submit a Fall 2025 class schedule with their application. This is a part-time position working 24 hours biweekly. Days/hours of work are Wednesdays and Thursdays, 1:00pm to 7:00pm. There is 1 position available.
