Summary of Responsibilities:
The Suicide Prevention System Manager is responsible for program implementation of the Comprehensive Suicide Prevention Grant (CSP). The Suicide Prevention System Manager will collaborate with lead state agencies to engage key stakeholders and service providers to perform statewide and community-level suicide prevention, intervention, and response strategies for youth and young adults. This position provides expertise in project/contract management, training and technical assistance, communication, data collection and advocacy to ensure the success of the grant. The manager will work with the CT Suicide Advisory Board to identify and engage regional partners representing various sectors and systems. This position strives to fulfill the mission of United Way of Connecticut (UWC) at all times while at work.
Essential Functions:
- Helps identify and implement evidence-based best practices to address identified needs, including Zero Suicide, engagement, training and education resources.
- Develops Memorandums of Agreement or contracts with sub-recipient partners in order to carry-out deliverables and related strategies.
- Develops and produces various written communications for partners and funders, including reports, press releases, e-bulletins and social media, as needed.
- Collaborates with UWCT Marketing Designer on public communications.
- Coordinates training and educational opportunities for partners to support the adoption of best practices.
- Promotes integration of suicide prevention as a core priority across the partners.
- Actively participates on the CT Suicide Advisory Board.
- Assists local health departments and various partners with building and implementing response plans for communities dealing with recent completed suicide.
- Works closely with identified health departments, grant Project Directors and the evaluation team.
- Fulfills reporting requirements of the grant.
- Collaborates with the 211 contact center to understand 988 and crisis line trends.
- Listens to 988 and crisis calls to gain an understanding of the caller’s experience and the Contact Specialist’s role.

Qualifications and Competencies:
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Statistics, or Public Administration with training in suicide prevention and mental health promotion (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Statistics, or Public Administration with five years of work experience.
- A minimum of three years’ work experience in planning and managing research and evaluation projects and collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data.
- Practical knowledge of primary data collection methods (planning and implementing) including surveying, interviewing, and conducting focus groups.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, communication (verbal, written, and presentation) and negotiating skills.
- Strong competency in project/ contract management.
- Experience facilitating productive multi-agency collaborations.
- Proficiency in computer programs necessary to perform the duties of the position including but not limited to MS Office.
- Ability to favorably represent United Way of Connecticut to State executives, offices, and partner agencies.
- Ability to perform job with integrity and values consistent with the UWC Mission.

- Must be highly mobile and able to access all areas of the premises and travel across the state. Must hold valid CT driver’s license, registration, insurance, and have reliable transportation.

- Ability to read and to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
- Must be able to perform bending, twisting, stooping, reaching and lifting of moderate weight material up to 10 lbs.
- Is frequently required to finger and reach with hands and arms.
- Vision abilities including close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to keep composure in stressful situations.
- The work environment is a clean and comfortable office setting consisting of standard fluorescent lighting, offices, cubicles and open workspaces. There may be variations of temperature and noise level.
Schedule:
Monday -Friday 8 hours per day.
This position is grant-funded through August 31, 2026. As an exempt role, work hours are flexible and may vary depending on meetings and outreach event schedules.
Salary:
$63,000
