This is a Full-Time onsite position at our Deep Eddy Vodka production site in Buda, TX. This is a 2nd shift position, 4:15pm - 2:45pm Monday - Thursday, with Fridays during peak season.
What the Role Is
The Assistant Lead Operator supports the daily operation of the bottling line to achieve safety, quality, and production goals. This role ensures compliance with standard work procedures, centerlines, and GMP requirements. How You Will Spend Your Time?
- Provide direction to the crew when the Line Lead is unavailable, ensuring organization and pace.
- Operate all stations on the line and assist in training new team members.
- Monitor line performance and product quality; complete end-of-shift reports.
- Perform minor troubleshooting (clear jams, adjust guides/sensors, reset basic faults); escalate issues to maintenance when necessary.
- Communicate promptly regarding downtime, material shortages, or equipment concerns.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in line with 5S principles.
- Handle scrap/disposal, bale cardboard, and move cases (up to 50 lbs) using manual/electric pallet jacks.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Who You Are…
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of manufacturing or high-speed packaging experience (food/beverage preferred).
- Basic understanding of Lockout/Tagout procedures (training provided).
- Strong teamwork and leadership ability; able to direct in a cross-functional environment.
- Attention to detail; capable of identifying defects in packaging, labeling, and product presentation.
- Ability to follow SOPs, written instructions, and verbal directions in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude with ability to complete routine adjustments, cleanings, and minor equipment fixes.
- Knowledge of GMP and food safety practices.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to learn and adapt to new technology.
- Experience with fillers/cappers, labelers, case packers, conveyors, palletizers, and line setup/changeovers.
- Familiarity with OEE/throughput metrics and using data to reduce downtime and defects.
- Forklift/pallet jack certification and knowledge of safe chemical handling for sanitation.
- Prior lead or backup lead experience preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, and use of computer; reach with hands and arms. Use tools and other machinery required to perform basic maintenance tasks. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
- Must be able to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from elevated platforms, aerial lifts, ladders, and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert 70 lbs; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls and machinery
- Frequent and extensive walking required in this position, including need to walk up and down stairs.
- Will be required to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions, to wear and work in personnel protective equipment.
