Summary
The Mechanical Designer/Detailer will be responsible for producing precise mechanical drawings, 3D models, and documentation that support the design, fabrication, and assembly of equipment and components in a manufacturing environment. This role requires strong technical ability, careful attention to detail, and the capacity to interpret engineering concepts into practical, manufacturable designs. The position involves working closely with engineers, production staff, and project managers to ensure accuracy, compliance with quality standards, and alignment with manufacturing capabilities.

Essential Functions
- Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, and assembly prints.
- Apply proper dimensioning, tolerances, and material specifications using industry standards.
- Create exploded views and technical documentation to support assembly and service.
- Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) in alignment with ERP/MRP systems.
- Manage drawings, models, and documents using revision control and PDM/PLM tools.
- Update and release revised documentation for ECRs/ECNs.
- Work with machinists, welders, and assemblers to ensure designs are manufacturable.
- Provide timely drawing updates and technical assistance during fabrication and assembly.
- Contribute feedback in design reviews to improve quality and performance.
- Support lean manufacturing, standardization, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) initiatives.
Skills & Abilities Required/Preferred
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems for BOM management (SyteLine V10+).
- Experience with PDM/PLM software for document control (SolidWorks PDM Professional).
- Familiarity with sheet metal design, weldments, or machine design.
- Ability to create exploded views, assembly instructions, or technical manuals.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Hands-on experience in a shop or fabrication environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Education & Training Required/Preferred
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical drafting/detailing in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar).
- Knowledge of GD&T, mechanical tolerances, and manufacturing processes.
