Location: Bethesda, MD 
Reports to: Director of Facilities

Job Type: Full-time; non-exempt; Administrative & Maintenance Personnel Association Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA) applicable

Salary Information: The salary range is $46,742-$60,449 per the Administrative & Maintenance Personnel Association CBA Salary Scale. This position is eligible for paid time off and sick leave, as well as medical, dental, and vision benefits, as well as participation in 403(b) retirement plan.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Maintenance Technician (General Maintenance Worker) will perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities, including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems. A collective bargaining agreement covers this position, and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to. The position reports to the Director of Facilities.

The regular hours for this position are 2pm-10pm, with possible weekend hours. 

This position is deemed Essential Personnel for the school's continued operation and may be assigned to other school properties as needed. Essential Personnel are expected to come to work in emergency situations unless they are specifically excused by their supervisor/departments. 

Emergency Situations Examples: School and or Campus closure: Inability to conduct business, inclement weather event, school security event, recognition of a local or national incident, announcement of a State of Emergency. Failure to report to work as directed may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

  • Active participation in the maintenance and cleanliness of the School, including cleaning of stairs, buffing of floors, etc. Ensure daily cleaning of buildings and campus, including, but not limited to, snow shoveling in the winter.

  • Ability to work on a rotational basis, including covering shifts when necessary.

  • Performs custodial services following established procedures and guidelines in buildings, classrooms, offices, restrooms, etc., including their furnishings, using manual tools and powered machines.

  • Ensure safety of buildings and campus, by conducting timely rounds, ensuring doors and windows are properly locked and the alarm system is functional and armed.

  • Prepares outdoor locations for use by visitors, vendors, and the public as needed.

  • Attend all special events convened by the school administration, as specified by the supervisor.

  • Customer service is focused when answering the telephone and radio. Able to take messages properly and transfer calls accordingly. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.

  • Monitor campus parking lots to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of staff, students, and the public.

  • Check vehicles for proper parking permits. Monitor motorists for compliance with speed limits and traffic flow directions.

  • Make contact/Contact the campus community and visitors and offer aid to those in need of/needing service.

  • Be available to assist the campus community in emergencies by making the appropriate contact (police, fire, ambulance, etc.).

  • Safely operates school vehicles and equipment such as saws, snow/leaf blowers, sprayers, paint machines and other equipment by obeying applicable traffic laws and following operator instructions, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Performs delivery services by identifying supplies, materials, and equipment to be delivered from invoices or order forms, safely loading items on the delivery vehicle, safeguarding items during transit, delivering items to the correct department, and obtaining the appropriate signature for the receipt of the delivered items.

  • Flexibility, as demonstrated by interchangeability with other staff, staying late, or arriving early, if necessary.

  • Positively support the school’s mission, policies, and practices, and work collaboratively in a professional organization.
