Lab Tech - SDI chez Steel Dynamics, Inc.

Requires the operation and maintenance of the Lab equipment associated with the testing of semi-finished (billets) and finished material.  Requires the operation of associated computers to ensure all test results (chemical and mechanical) are correct and maintained.  Provides support for the Melt Shop, Rolling Mill, and Shipping

• Operate Lab Spectrometers and associated computers, and grinder(s) to prepare samples received from the Melt Shop and Rolling Mill for chemical analysis
• Operate the Lab Tensile Tester and associated computer to conduct mechanical testing of product samples from the Rolling Mill
• Operate micrometers/calipers for dimensional measurements of Samples
• Ability to lift up to 45 lbs and maneuver such weight (samples) for testing
• Prepare associated paperwork as needed (i.e.: NCR)
• Communicate effectively with other Departments
• Maintain Lab equipment and Lab cleanliness during scheduled shift
• Perform other duties as assigned/required by the Lab Supervisor

Work overtime as required

• Ability to create and maintain a safe work environment for self and crew
• High School Diploma
• Proficiency in computer skills and have mechanical aptitude
• Work experiencein a Steel Mill Production Operation (Melt Shop/Rolling Mill) or Industrial lab environment
• 2- year veriable work experience
